Chapter 1813
[ 582 words ]
Fannie lived in a decent complex, and Norris parked directly in front of her building.
“Are we here?”
She groggily opened her eyes, recognized her building, and immediately reached for the door handle.
“Wait,” Norris instructed, stopping her from opening it.
Fannie froze. “What’s wrong?”
He glanced toward a tree a short distance away. Someone was hiding behind it.
A shadow had darted out of sight the moment he parked, vanishing behind the trunk and refusing to reappear.
“Does your boss know you live here?” Norris suspected the lurker was Julian.
He didn’t have solid proof, of course.
But if he let her go upstairs and something horrific happened, his conscience would never let him sleep.
As a decent human being, he couldn’t just walk away and let a tragedy unfold.
“No… wait, actually, I think he does.”
Fannie’s heart skipped a beat. She suddenly remembered Julian giving her a ride home once.
He might not know her exact apartment number, but he definitely knew the building. “Don’t tell me you saw him in my complex?” The panic in her chest skyrocketed.
If it really was him, what was he planning to do?
Someone sick enough to stalk her home wasn’t just here to take a quick peek. No matter how fiercely independent Fannie was, she was still a woman.
At that moment, her hands curled tightly into fists.
What the hell was wrong with that psycho? Why couldn’t he just leave her alone?
“You shouldn’t stay here tonight. Do you have any friends nearby? I can drop you off at their place.”
Although Norris didn’t explicitly confirm it was Julian, they both silently agreed it
was.
Fannie was caught in a tough spot.
She had friends, but they were married.
Crashing at someone else’s place unannounced made her deeply uncomfortable.
“I’ll just get a hotel for the night,” S finally suggested, realizing it was only viable option,
Seeing her determination, Norris thought it was a solid plan.
“Will you be okay staying in a hotel by yourself, Fannie?”
“Maybe you could ask a friend to keep you company?”
Claire was incredibly tactful, purposely avoiding the suggestion that Fannie crash at Norris’s place.
He owned a house near the university, but he fiercely guarded his privacy.
Even Claire had never been to his apartment.
He wasn’t the kind of man to take advantage of a vulnerable woman by inviting her
to sleep over.
And Fannie wasn’t the type to expect it.
She did harbor a tiny flicker of
that he might offer, but he was pet
exactly the man she knew him to be. Gontent
His failure to invite her actually made her sigh in relief.
Pity wasn’t love, and she refused to confuse the two.
Clearly, he wasn’t confused either.
“I’ll be fine on my own,” Fannie said, declining the idea of calling a friend.
As long as the hotel was far enough away, Julian wouldn’t be able to track her down.
She highly doubted he possessed the resources to find her that quickly.
“We’ll walk you up so you can pack a bag. We can book a hotel near the university.” “Claire and I both live near campus, so you’ll feel a bit safer.”
He seemed utterly detached, yet beneath his icy exterior lay a remarkably warm heart.
Fannie suddenly felt the urge to cry.
Her friends always told her to get over him and find someone else.
But no one else was him.
He was so incredibly gentle, even if he didn’t show it on the surface.
A soft-hearted, deeply principled gentleman. How could anyone not fall for him?
He was the
loved inoy she had secretly
r youth, and all these net
years later he hadn’t change Gontent
She couldn’t find a single reason to give up on him.
