Chapter 1822
[ 541 words ]
The criminal evidence Fannie had gathered against Julian’s family was solid, but it wouldn’t have been this devastating on its own.
Otherwise, his family wouldn’t have stayed in power for so many years.
So, someone powerful had to be pulling the strings from the shadows.
Tessa’s guess made perfect sense.
Fannie’s heart skipped a beat, but she still dismissed the thought.
“I don’t know. I haven’t contacted Norris since I left the country.”
“Why not?” Tessa demanded, frustrated on her friend’s behalf. “You’re so into him. You should just tell him!”
“How do you know he won’t fall for you if you don’t even try?”
“Fannie, I’m telling you, it would be amazing if Norris was the one looking out for you.”
“If he didn’t do it, no big deal. It doesn’t hurt to shoot your shot.”
“I heard Julian came by the office asking about you and digging for your home address.”
“I’m sure he’s planning to go after your family for revenge.”
“He’s locked up. How is he going to get revenge?” Fannie knew Julian held grudges.
But since he was behind bars, she didn’t fear him anymore.
“You’re too naive,” Tessa sighed.
“He might be locked up, but that doesn’t mean the rest of his family is.”
“All it takes is a few words from him on the inside, and your family’s lives will be a living hell.”
Tessa ran in those circles. She knew Julian’s downfall looked final, but the fallout was far from over.
If his family refused to let it go, Fannie’s relatives could be in real danger.
“Why do you think I’m telling you to go after Norris?”
“If he has that kind of influence, he can protect you.”
Tessa wanted to help, but she didn’t have the clout.
And her own family certainly wouldn’t listen to her.
A guy like Julian rubbed shoulders with all sorts of shady characters growing up. Someone out there would gladly do his dirty work for the right price.
His family might have fallen, but a starving camel was still bigger than a horse.
Did anyone really believe they hadn’t stashed away millions?
Not a chance!
“Then I definitely can’t drag Norris into this. This has nothing to do with him.” Fannie insisted firmly.
Tessa sighed. “Fine. I’ll keep an eye on your family while you’re gone.”
Fannie was deeply moved. “Thank you, Tessa. But if it puts you in a tough spot…..”
“Don’t worry, I’ll play it safe.” Tessa had poention of throwing herself in the life of fire but she could pulla few strings
It was the least she could do.
“Just promise me you’ll stay safe out there. Don’t do anything reckless.”
“I’ll be waiting to throw you a massive welcome home party.”
Fannie choked back her emotions. “Okay!”
After hanging up, she hesitated.
Should she call Norris and find out if he was the one who had helped her?
After a long debate with herself, she dialed Claire instead.
Claire was surprised to see Fannie’s name on her screen.

Since the phone had rung a few times before connecting, Fannie quickly apologized.
“Not at all,” Claire hurried to reassure her. “I’m on a break.”
“Fannie, is everything okay?”
Fannie still hesitated, wondering if she should bring up Norris.
