Chapter 1515
[ 619 words ]
Claire could tell Commander Miller was just looking out for them.
But what choice did they have? They were already here, so they had to face the danger head-on.
All they could do was try their best not to be a burden to the soldiers.
Miller looked at Silas.
Silas gave a helpless smile. “Our hands are tied. They’re the doctors, and we need them every step of the way.”
“Only you city folks would put your faith in doctors this young,” Miller muttered.
However, he soon found himself swallowing his words.
Not long after entering the forest, they encountered a massive swarm of aggressive ants.
“Make sure your pant legs are tied tight. If these ants get on you, the bites hurt like hell and swell up huge.”
“They leave scars that are almost impossible to get rid of.”
Zamu rolled up his sleeve to show them his own scars.
His arm was covered in densely packed, terrifying marks.
“Got these when I was young and stupid, wandering into the mountains without proper protection.”
“I learned my lesson the hard way. I don’t take chances anymore.”
Fortunately, Claire’s group was well-prepared. Not only were their clothes heavily secured, but they were also wearing thin, specialized protective suits that insects couldn’t bite through.
Dane had provided them.
Dane even had his men give Zamu a suit.
Once Zamu put it on, the ants were completely unable to pierce the fabric.
He marveled at the high-tech gear. “You rich folks from the outside world sure have a lot of fancy tricks.”
“It’s not about being rich; it’s about being prepared,” Claire said as she pulled a spray bottle from her backpack.
She sprayed herself down thoroughly, then moved on to Dane, Rory, and Jace.
Silas caught a whiff of the spray and asked curiously, “Claire, is that bug repellent?”
He wanted some too.
Even with their gear, some mosquitoes were relentlessly shameless, trying to squeeze through any tiny gap to get a bite.
They acted like they hadn’t tasted human blood in centuries.
They were starving, buzzing maddeningly right next to his ears!
“It repels bugs, insects, and even snakes to some extent.”
Claire handed the remaining bottle over.
The scent wasn’t flowery like commercial repellents; it had a distinct, earthy herbal
aroma.
But it wasn’t unpleasant to wear, and actually felt quite refreshing.
Naturally, everyone in the group ended up using Claire’s spray.
By the time the bottle made its way back to her, it was less than half full.
And she had brought a massive 500ml bottle.
“Claire, did you make this yourself?” Elias leaned in to ask.
The results of the spray were instantaneous and highly visible.
Swarms of mosquitoes would fly toward them, hit an invisible wall of scent, and immediately drop out of the air.
Zamu was utterly fascinated. “Miss Claire, can you buy this stuff in the outside world?”
“My family has our own traditional powder for keeping bugs and snakes away, but it’s nowhere near as good as this.”
Repelling snakes was one thing, but repelling the local insects was nearly impossible.
The mosquitoes here were
venomous. A single bite caused
agonizing pain and intense itching,
leaving
a massive wett that took
days to fade.
But now, with a single coat of this spray, not a single bug dared to come close.
He used to suffer swarms of ants
crawling up his legs, but after
spraying his boats, they avo
him
like the plague.
Zamu wasn’t the only one amazed; the soldiers were equally stunned.
“You definitely can’t buy this in a store,” Claire admitted truthfully. “I made it from scratch.”
Zamu looked at her in awe. “You young folks brave enough to enter The Aila Highlands truly are built different.”
He had been wondering why a group
of hardened men hadn’t objected
harder to bringing such a
delicate-looking girlinto the
Sove
mountains.

So this was the true value of a doctor!
“It’s nothing special. I just like keeping my skills sharp, so I whip up a batch now and
then for emergencies.”
