Chapter 1661
[ 654 words ]
Claire frowned. “You guys keep eating. I’m going to go check it out.”
She was worried that the shooter might have been aiming for her.
If they were coming for her, staying in the room would put all these innocent doctors in grave danger.
Barry didn’t feel comfortable letting Claire go out alone.
Lawler immediately stood up. “I’ll go with you.”
Claire wanted to refuse, but Lawler didn’t give her the chance.
“If you don’t let me go, everyone else here is going to be worried sick.”
“Besides, I’m a grown man. As a young woman, you should honestly be the one staying in the room.”
Claire realized that if she didn’t take Lawler with her, the others would never let her leave.
“Alright, let’s go together.”
Without waiting for anyone else’s input, the two of them hurried out of the private
room.
Seeing Claire emerge, Rory and Jace instantly frowned.
Jace had already scoped the area and found a middle-aged man bleeding out on the street.
He had wanted to help, but the scene was chaotic, and he suspected this might be a Daybreak Syndicate tactic to lure them away from Claire.
So, he had stayed rooted to his spot.
Claire and Lawler rushed straight toward the man lying in a pool of blood.
Working in perfect sync, they immediately began assessing his condition.
“Please step back, we’re doctors.”
The bystanders, who had been hesitating to apply pressure to the wound, quickly backed away upon hearing professionals had arrived.
“Help me… get this… to Silas…”
The man had been shot directly in the chest. Before he could even finish his sentence, his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
He had shoved something into Claire’s hand, his grip completely going slack.
Without hesitating, Claire slipped the object into her pocket and calmly began applying pressure to stop the bleeding.
Lawler assisted her seamlessly, their movements perfectly coordinated.
“He’s losing way too much blood!”
Claire gritted her teeth. They were in the middle of a packed pedestrian street;
getting an ambulance in here was going to be a nightmare.
“I can temporarily stem the bleeding, but we can’t wait for the ambulance to navigate this crowd.”
“I’m going to get my car!” Claire decided, leaving Lawler to monitor the patient.
“We already called the cops and 120!
You doctors might want to think twice before moving him!” a
bystander warned, afraid they were going to get themselves into legal trouble.
After all, this was a gunshot wound.
Getting involved with something like this usually meant trouble.
Neither Claire nor Lawler hesitated. Saving a life was the only thing that mattered.
“We’ve managed the bleeding for now, but he might not survive the wait for the ambulance. Getting him out of here ourselves is his best shot.”
Claire couldn’t afford to waste a single second and sprinted to retrieve her car.
Lawler grabbed whatever materials he could find to construct a makeshift stretcher, ordering a few bystanders to help lift the man.
Just as they predicted, the
ambulance would take at least twenty minutes to reach them through the gridlock By the time they loaded him up and drove to the hospital, he would be dead.
Claire immediately called the police dispatcher, requesting an escort from the nearest traffic unit. She blew through every red light on the
to the hospital.

Rory and Jace floored the gas in their own vehicle but couldn’t keep up with her.
“If anything happens to Claire, it’s on us!” Rory snapped. She had tried to stop Claire from driving.
But Jace had held her back.
Saving a life was important, but was it more important than Claire’s safety?
Jace gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white. “It’s not just our fault. Claire is too impulsive!”
“If we had tried to physically stop her from saving that guy, she would have fought us on it.”
Rory knew he was right.
She had a fiery temper and hated feeling this helpless.
“I just pray this isn’t a trap to lure us out.”
“If this is the work of that trash syndicate again, I’m requesting a transfer to Sundara
so I can burn their headquarters to the ground.”
