Chapter 1763
[ 600 words ]
Julian Young, oh, Julian Young. You’ve been dead for years, and you still manage to drop a bomb like this on me!
Throughout her smooth, peaceful marriage, Yvette never imagined that years after her husband’s death, she would suddenly be thrust into a mother-in-law crisis.
Julian must have thought she was getting too bored down here, so he sent his own mother to keep her on her toes.
Queenie was equally restless.
Half of her anxiety was about her grandson, but the other half was sheer terror over how to handle her daughter-in-law.
Her adopted son had a wife and children as well.
But the dynamics overseas were completely different from Solenia.
Over there, you treated your in-laws like standard relatives. There was no intense, built-in friction.
They rarely saw each other, and when they did, everyone was polite.
How could you have conflict when everyone was practically strangers?
Claire, on the other hand, slept like a baby.
Tomorrow was Saturday, which meant she had the whole day free to watch Queenie’s dramatic family reunion unfold.
But Claire had no intention of actually crashing the event.
She was simply dropping Mary off at the hospital when she witnessed Queenie’s grand arrival.
Eight men in black suits shadowed her every move, though as they approached the entrance, she commanded all but two to wait outside.
“If we storm in there with an entire army, we’re going to terrify my grandson and daughter-in-law.”
Queenie’s concern was perfectly valid.
Pandora chimed in right on cue, “You really don’t need this much security. It’s a military hospital—there isn’t a safer place in the city.”
“If you march in with that many guards, the hospital staff might think you’re planning a hostile takeover.”
Though Pandora rarely left The James Village, let alone visited Cabinda, she was incredibly well-informed.
Half the village had moved to the city for school or work, and every time they called home to gossip, Pandora heard about it.
They practically reported directly to her.
In the end, Queenie took only two guards and her most trusted assistant, Jana.
Jana was sharply dressed in a tailored blouse and slacks, radiating a crisp, professional energy.
Claire instantly liked her.
Jana wasn’t just stunning; she was ruthlessly efficient.
Claire hadn’t expected them to arrive so late in the morning. She figured the reunion
would have been done by now.
Noticing the dark circles under Queenie’s eyes, Claire smiled. “L

Queenie shot her a playful glare. “I didn’t, but then I crashed right as the sun came up.”
As a result, they were running late. It was already 9:00 AM.
She had originally planned to be at
the hospital the second the

“I won’t hold you up. Are you heading straight to the ward? I happen to know exactly
which room he’s in.”
Claire was just trying to be helpful.
“That would be wonderful. Thank you, Claire.”

Yvette’s aunt.
The two women had even shared an incredibly awkward phone call the night before.
Neither of them had known what to say; the conversation was painfully stiff. Queenie simply stated she was Julian’s mother and would be visiting her and her grandson the following day.
Yvette politely agreed and asked Queenie to call when she arrived so she could meet her at the entrance.
Now, Queenie was standing right at the entrance, agonizing over whether to actually make that call.
Having Claire lead the way was a massive relief. It saved her from having to dial her estranged daughter-in-law.
She had considered having Jana make the call.
But dispatching an assistant felt entirely too dismissive and disrespectful to her daughter-in-law.
The walk to the ward felt both agonizingly long and far too short.
