Chapter 1765
[ 625 words ]
Queenie’s smile was perfectly warm. “It’s quite alright. I managed to find the hospital just fine.”
“Besides, you’re exhausted from taking care of the boy. There was no need to go to all that trouble.”
Queenie’s graciousness allowed Yvette to breathe a massive sigh of relief.
She had been terrified of dealing with a tyrannical mother-in-law.
But from the looks of it, Queenie was incredibly polite.
Evie, who had been loudly whispering poison into Yvette’s ear just moments before, was now dead silent.
Even though Queenie had only brought two bodyguards, the sheer luxury of her attire screamed immense wealth.
This was absolutely not some desperate relative crawling out of the mountains looking for a handout.
Evie was full of petty schemes, but she lacked any real worldly experience. Faced with actual power, she lost her voice completely.
“Did I hear this young lady correctly just now? Was she worried we were poor relatives here to beg for money?”
Even though Evie had retreated into her shell, Queenie wasn’t about to let it slide.
It wasn’t that she enjoyed bullying children, but the girl was appallingly disrespectful.
If someone like her was allowed to constantly whisper poison into Yvette’s ear, Queenie and her daughter-in-law would never have a peaceful relationship.
It was better to rip the mask off immediately and see how Yvette handled it.
“You heard wrong,” Evie denied instantly, cursing Claire to hell in her mind.
She had no idea how Claire had managed to track down Julian’s relatives, but with this interference, Evie’s chances of securing the Young family fortune were slipping away.
How was she supposed to salvage her image with this old hag now?
Evie forced a painfully stiff smile, but inside, she was panicking like a rat trapped in a fire.
“I might be old, but my hearing is perfectly fine.” Queenie kept her smile, but the underlying steel in her voice left no room for argument.
Evie’s forced smile cracked, looking worse than if she had burst into tears.
She shot a desperate, pleading look at Yvette.
Only Yvette could save her now.
The old bat clearly wasn’t going to give her any grace, but surely she wouldn’t embarrass her own daughter-in-law, right?
After all, Yvette had single-handedly raised Quentin after Julian died. That demanded respect.
Yvette was stunned that Evie’s backstabbing had been caught so clearly.
And Evie’s comment was incredibly offensive and judgmental.
Still, the girl was terribly spoiled. If her new mother-in-law despised Evie would she automatically despise Yvette for tolerating her?
Or was Queenie intentionally using Evie to establish dominance over Yvette?
Whatever the case, Yvette needed to pacify her mother-in-law immediately.
She had a strong gut feeling that
this woman was the real deal.

“Please don’t hold it against her. Evie is just terribly spoiled and speaks without thinking.”
Yvette still chose to shield her.
She didn’t have much of a choice. Evie was her best friend’s daughter, a girl she had watched grow up.
She couldn’t just throw her to the wolves the second she met her wealthy mother-in- law.
Even though she was already exhausted by Evie’s behavior, she wasn’t going to air that dirty laundry in front of Queenie.
Yvette was much smarter than that.
Queenie, for her part, wasn’t going
public/condemn the woman who

“To be fair, her concerns aren’t entirely baseless.” Queenie suddenly shifted her tone, instantly easing the tension.
Evie was so thoroughly rattled by the emotional whiplash that she didn’t dare speak another word.
“Do you know Claire?” Yvette asked, genuinely curious as to why Claire had been the one to escort them up.
And Queenie hadn’t even introduced the other imposing elderly woman standing beside her.
That woman had an incredibly commanding presence as well.
And she seemed particularly close to Claire.
“Claire’s grandmother is one of my dearest, oldest friends.”
Queenie gestured to Pandora. “You can call her Pandora.”
