Chapter 1540
[ 617 words ]
Trapped in this subterranean hell for three to five years, having a beautiful woman to serve his personal needs while also managing lab work sounded like a perfect
arrangement.
Dane had heard enough. He saw the sickening, predatory way the ‘doctor’ was looking at Claire, eyeing her like prime livestock.
It pushed Dane past the point of restraint.
“Brooks, River!”
Without waiting for Silas to give the tactical command, Dane ordered his men to strike.
Rory and Jace immediately moved to shield Claire. Rory pulled her back into the shadows while Jace unleashed a barrage of throwing knives, moving like a blur of lethal precision.
Rory deployed The Crimson Aegis, the tactical umbrella snapping open to form a bulletproof barricade around Claire.
The materials used to construct the umbrella were highly classified, but its effectiveness was undeniable.
The cavern instantly erupted into absolute chaos.
Silas wasn’t offended that Dane had initiated the bloodbath; he instantly capitalized on the momentum, signaling his squad to breach and clear.
On the other side, Kael was completely blindsided. The aerosolized Dreamweed toxin hadn’t slowed the Solenians down for a single second.
Without the chemical advantage, capturing them alive was suddenly impossible. Yet, Dr. Aris was still screaming over the gunfire, “The girl! I want the girl alive!”
As for the rest of them, they were expendable. Kill them all.
“I want the doctor alive!” Claire shouted back from behind the Aegis, matching the doctor’s ruthlessness. She shot a quick glance at Silas.
Silas let out a dark chuckle. “Understood.”
The girl’s raw intensity was both terrifying and amusing.
He had thought she possessed a cold, mature stoicism far beyond her years.
But in the heat of a firefight, her vicious streak was on full display.
It wasn’t just Dr. Aris-Kael’s squad was also trying to take prisoners.
Previously, they had relied entirely on the neurotoxin to incapacitate Officer Miller and his men, making them easy prey.
But Silas’s squad was fully lucid, heavily armed, and fighting with lethal precision.
Kael’s arrogance had doomed his men, and Silas’s operatives were systematically tearing their formation to shreds.
Just as Silas’s squad closed in to capture Kael and Dr. Aris, a hidden panel in the rock face slid open Several syndicate elites dragged the
sere
reaming doctor into the dark corridor.
The cavern was rigged with secret escape routes. Kael’s men knew the layout perfectly and vanished into the stone with terrifying speed.
“I’m going after them!” Silas roared. He wasn’t about to let the mastermind escape.
The fact that Kael had an extraction tunnel meant they had a fallback point.
Dane understood exactly what Silas needed. “Go! I’ll secure Miller and the wounded. We’ll get them to the surface.”
“Thank you!” Silas yelled over his shoulder before diving into the secret passage with his assault team.
Meanwhile, Claire and Elias Sterling sprang into action, moving rapidly among the wounded soldiers to apply tourniquets and coagulants.
Claire remained completely unscathed behind Rory’s shield, while Elias had managed to survive by diving behind a massive boulder the moment the shooting started.
Working with practiced efficiency, the two quickly stabilized the bleeding men.
Claire pulled out her canteens, forcing the Dreamweed antidote down the throats of Miller and the recently freed prisoners.
Tragically, the young soldier Miller had tried to save earlier had his throat slashed in the chaos.
Elias took one took and shook his head, knowing it was beyond his medical capabilities. But Claire didn’t hesitate. She grabbed her needles and sealed the primary arteries, temporarily halting the massiv hemorrhage.
“He needs a massive blood transfusion immediately, or even God can’t save him.” Despite her grim prognosis, she pulled a small,
sealed vial from her tactical pouch and slipped a pill past the soldier’s
lips.

The pill dissolved instantly on his tongue.
“What is that?” Elias asked, his curiosity piqued by the rich, earthy scent of ancient ginseng radiating from the medicine.
