Evie hadn’t learned a single thing and was already plotting her next move.
Meanwhile, Claire ended up staying an extra day in the small town while Rory went souvenir shopping.
Early the next morning, Officer Miller dispatched a team to escort them to the airport.
Since time had been critical before, they had flown in on a military transport plane. But now that the urgency had passed, it wasn’t practical to mobilize military resources for their return.
Dane had considered calling in a private jet from The Green Family, but Claire vetoed the idea.
Deploying a private jet back and forth was too much hassle, and completely unnecessary.
However, none of them expected that a military escort vehicle would be tailed.
Rory glanced out the window and noticed the enemy was well-funded; several cars in the convoy were clearly tailing them.
The route from the town to the airport was long. If the pursuers were going to make a move, where would they strike?
The soldiers escorting them also spotted the tails, their expressions tightening with

“Sergeant, what’s the call?”
The young soldier driving sought instructions from the passenger seat.
The roads out here were notoriously treacherous.
And they were about to hit the most dangerous stretch of the route.

He prayed to God it wasn’t an inside job, or the military was about to undergo a brutal purge.
However, military intelligence wasn’t exactly easy to leak.
He remained fiercely confident in his men.

Officer Miller quickly formulated a plan.
He couldn’t afford to sit around nursing his injuries.
He personally mobilized a strike team to exterminate the rats.
He also coordinated with the nearest police precinct, ordering their tactical units to intercept.
Among the officers was an old comrade of his who had transferred to the local force. The mission was critical: they had to forcibly stop the unidentified hostile vehicles.
