Chapter 1559
[ 592 words ]
“They’ll likely strike here.”
Dane pulled up a digital map on his phone.
He pointed to a specific mountain pass characterized by steep cliffs, hairpin turns, and treacherous driving conditions, with a raging river waiting at the bottom of the gorge.
The rapids were violent and relentless; one wrong move, and it was a watery grave.
Claire calculated the distance based on their current speed; they were only about ten minutes away.
No wonder the cars in front and behind were closing the gap.
“Do these Sundara operatives have a death wish? You do not mess with the Solenia military.”
The military wasn’t bound by the polite red tape of politicians. Piss them off, and they’d open fire without hesitation!
Conducting illegal experiments in The Aila Highlands had already enraged the local garrison.
Now, actively provoking them on their own turf was practically begging for annihilation.
Officer Miller’s team was tied up at the moment, but once they finished clearing out the Aila facility, they would hunt these operatives to the ends of the earth!
“Official Sundara spies would know better than to poke the bear, but this situation is different.”
“The people tailing us might not be government operatives at all.”
Dane’s brow furrowed. “Did you forget about the man who abducted you? Quinton Graves escaped.”
“There’s been no word from Cabinda about his recapture.”
“Because the situation was critical, Silas Carl prioritized saving lives.”
He hadn’t personally pursued Quinton, and the status of the strike teams sent after him remained unknown.
If today’s ambush was Quinton’s retaliation, the aggressiveness made perfect sense.
This wasn’t just about capturing Claire; they were likely aiming to kill everyone else in the vehicle.
While Dane didn’t know the results of the special security division’s interrogation of Tycho Thorne and Felicity Frost, judging by Quinton’s track record, the man didn’t take losses lightly.
“If this is Quinton’s crew, then their desperation makes total sense.” Claire’s gaze turned icy.
Quinton was incredibly dangerous and
phe fact that he
possessed Dreamweed toxin strongly suggested he was
connected to the illegafovel
More accurately, The Daybreak Syndicate was likely backing the entire experimental facility.
Otherwise, how would Syndicate operatives have gotten their hands on the poison?
With four cars boxing them in, the enemy was cutting off every possible avenue of escape.
The four bodyguards listened intently to their analysis.
Brooks Green and River Green followed Dane’s lead with absolute loyalty.
Both had sustained minor injuries while protecting him in The Aila Highlands.
If this escalated into a massive vehicular collision, they honestly weren’t sure they could guarantee Dane’s survival.
Their expressions grew grim.
Rory and Jace, however, exuded the fearless energy of young lions.
The two whispered furiously to each other, though Claire couldn’t catch what they were saying.
Curious, she turned back to look at them. “If things go south, prioritize your own survival. Do not worry about me.”
“If our car goes into the river, whoever can swim away, swims.”
“Especially you, Jace. You’re a strong swimmer. If you see a window, take it and run!”
Claire refused to drag them down. This was Rory and Jace’s first time leaving the village, and she couldn’t let them die here.
Both Rory and Jace shot her deeply disapproving looks. “How could we possibly abandon the Clan Successor?”
Rory quickly explained, “We’re both excellent swimmers. We can easily drag you to shore.”
“It’s just that… we can probably only save you, which means we might not be able to save Mr. Green…”
The Clan Successor seemed quite,
fond of her fiancé. If Mr. Green
Rory wasn’t sure if the Glan Successor would be heartbroken.
Understanding their implication, Claire massaged her temples in defeat. “Stop overthinking it. We’ll do our best. Who knows we might end up needing Mr. Green to save us.”
