Chapter 1614

[ 613 words ]

As soon as Claire walked into her apartment, she was instantly swarmed by her friends.

Since Lex Grant hadn’t gone home for winter break, she had taken on extra shifts and made a decent amount of money. She had bought a bunch of premium fruit for everyone to share.

They hadn’t formally celebrated Claire’s safe return yet, so they decided tonight was the night.

Lex bought the fruit, Zara Zeller ordered fancy desserts, and Skylar Sommers bought a ton of hotpot ingredients.

“We were going to do an indoor BBQ in the dorm, but my slow cooker is way too small. I usually just use it for ramen,” Lex explained.

To save money, Lex had bought a tiny slow cooker that could barely feed two people.

Using appliances like that was strictly against dorm rules.

But as long as no one complained, they usually got away with it.

Claire knew exactly which tiny pot she was talking about. Trying to cook a massive feast in that thing would be a nightmare.

Plus, the smell of a tabletop grill and savory broth would seep into everything. If a dorm inspector caught a whiff, they’d all be written up.

“Let’s just do it at my place,” Claire suggested.

“Yes! Perfect! I can still change the delivery address for the groceries!” Skylar agreed instantly.

Claire saw right through them.

They had probably wanted to use her place from the start but were too polite to ask.

The dorm was just their backup plan.

Claire’s apartment was spacious and fully equipped-obviously the best choice. Thankfully, Claire didn’t mind at all.

She had a cleaning service come in regularly, so it was infinitely more convenient than the cramped dorms.

If they got reported in the dorms, it would be a huge headache.

“Claire, you’re a lifesaver!”

“I’ll have my family’s chef send over some premium cuts of meat. The stuff Skylar

bought is fine for a dorm, but not nearly enough for your place.”

Seeing how excited they were, Claire didn’t want to ruin the mood.

“Let’s prep everything later tonight. Don’t you guys have afternoon classes?”

Claire actually had a lot of work to catch up on. She had borrowed Priscilla’s notes and needed to study.

“I have class,” Lex raised her hand.

Skylar had class too.

But Zara just grinned and stayed quiet.

Claire shot her a look. “Don’t tell me you have a date this afternoon.”

“Ahem, Reid asked me to go look at an apartment with him.”

Zara looked a little sheepish.

She used to violently resist the idea of being engaged to Reid Dalton.dn her eyes he was the untouchable golden boy she could never live up to.

But lately, she was getting used to him being a part of her life.

Because he was genuinely amazing. Not only was he brilliant at work, but he seamlessly organized her schedule and took care of her claitÿ needs.

The man was practically flawless.

Even her mother told her she had hit the jackpot.

As for Preston Dalton, her entire family now viewed him as utterly worthless.

Recently, Preston and Zoe Zeller had been fighting non-stop.

Zara had seen Zoe try to talk to Preston a few times, only to be completely ignored.

She was dying to know the gossip, but Reid had told her to stay out of it.

Reid said Preston was just throwing a childish tantrum and would probably make up with Zoe by tomorrow.

He was so obsessed with Zoe that Reid wouldn’t be surprised if they were back together instantly.

Zara thought about it.

That actually made a lot of sense.

So, to ensure they stayed mad at

each other as long as possible, Zara decided not to interfere and give

them a common enemy

“Looking at an apartment? Are you guys buying a place together?” That was Claire’s immediate thought.

Then she realized: She and Dane were engaged first, how was Zara already lapping

her?
