Chapter 1620

Hearing that, Skylar’s interest evaporated instantly.
“Who is this master sculptor you learned from? Does he take students?” Claire was actually quite intrigued by the carving.
As a designer, learning how to sculpt her own pieces would be incredibly useful. With a bit of training, it shouldn’t be too hard to pick up.
Before Yanis could answer, Zara chimed in, “He doesn’t take students.”
“The only reason he taught Yanis was because he liked his face.”
“The old man was trying to set Yanis up with his granddaughter, so he bribed him by teaching him his signature techniques.”
“Unfortunately for him, his granddaughter wasn’t interested. She thought Yanis was too pretty and lacked maturity.”
Yanis instantly bristled like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. “Who lacks maturity?! She just has terrible taste!”
Yanis grumbled defensively.
The girl in question was an heiress with a background even more intimidating than Zara’s. Her family had both unimaginable wealth and serious political power.
Naturally, her standards for men were stratospheric.
Yanis simply wasn’t her type.
Yanis didn’t care. He was never going to marry the girl just because he learned a few tricks from her grandfather anyway.
The old man had just been messing around.
When she rejected him, Yanis was actually relieved.
But hearing Zara frame it like he was fundamentally unappealing completely bruised his ego.
While they were bickering, Dane finally arrived.
He rang the doorbell.
Claire jogged over to open it and beamed as she pulled him inside.
The apartment was packed, but Dane was the only one who had his own dedicated pair of slippers waiting for him.
Glancing around and seeing that everyone else was wearing disposable shoe covers while he got real slippers, Dane’s lips curved into a smug smirk.
“Am I late?”
Dane had brought several boxes of high-end smoked delicatessen meats from a five-star hotel.
“This place is famous for these. I grabbed a few of their signature cuts.”
As Dane opened the elegant takeout boxes a rich savory aroma drifted Faut,
aggressively competing with the
spicy broth.
The tabletop grill was fiery and intense, but Dane’s dishes were either slow-smoked
or refreshingly crisp.
They complimented the feast perfectly without clashing.
“The beef here is incredible. It’s smoked and sliced paper-thin.”
Dane picked up a slice with his chopsticks and fed it directly to Claire.
Claire took the bite and immediately wanted more.
“That is seriously amazing. Now I’m even hungrier.”
The massive pot in the center of the table was bubbling furiously.
“Alright, let’s eat!” Claire ushered everyone to take a seat.
They all gathered around the table, and right on cue, the desserts Zara ordered arrived.
There were several different kinds, all looking light, airy, and delicious.
Claire immediately reached for them.
“Hold off on the sugar,” Dane said, gently catching her hand. “Eat some actual food first.”
Having someone to cook your food for you during a tabletop grill was an incredible luxury.
Since Claire was too busy eating to cook her own meat, Dane took over, piling her plate high.
Her plate was never empty.
Dane, on the other hand, barely ate a thing.
By the time everyone was completely stuffed, it was past nine o’clock.
The group was scattered around the
living room, slumped on the sofamet
sprawling on the rug. The feast had been an absolute triumph! .net>
Just as everyone was groaning about being too full to move, Zara opened the final dessert box.
It was a small, elegant six-inch cake.
Decorated in a gorgeous woodland aesthetic, it looked like a piece of art.
“Lex, come make a wish.”
Lex froze in shock. She genuinely believed no one would remember it was her birthday.
After all, to her own family, she was
just a worthless daughter who
shouldn’t have been born W
would anyone celebrate her?
