Chapter 1630

“The annual dividends will automatically route to your accounts.”
“It’s not a massive fortune, just some extra pocket money.”
“If it makes you feel better, just treat it like a holiday bonus from Hillary and me.” Claire stared at him. That was a ridiculously brutal holiday bonus.
It wasn’t like she lived under a rock. She knew exactly which gaming company he was talking about. Their small mobile games pulled in tens of millions of dollars daily.
By the end of the fiscal year, her pocket money dividend was going to be
astronomically huge.
“Then… thank you, Hanson. Tell Hillary I say thanks, too.”
Seeing that he absolutely refused to take no for an answer, Claire swiftly signed the transfer documents.
Signing made everyone feel secure, so why make a fuss?
Claire thoroughly understood the psychology behind men like Hanson.
Even if he genuinely wanted to be her friend, his instincts were wired to operate purely on transactions.
He was instinctively clearing his debt so he didn’t owe her his life.
Claire honestly didn’t care.
She highly doubted she would ever be desperate enough to need to call in a favor from them anyway.
She had far more powerful assets backing her up.
Later that week, Hanson belatedly realized he had massively screwed up his approach.
He actually had to drag Caleb Lewis in to smooth things over.
Caleb had interacted with Claire far more extensively during his father’s medical crisis.
Caleb possessed a silver tongue; people naturally trusted him.
Caleb didn’t refuse to help, but he bluntly told Hanson his tactics were insulting.
“I know you’re used to handling things with contracts and payouts, but throwing equity at Claire makes you look incredibly dismissive,” Caleb said.
“Hanson, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Finding a doctor with her level of genius is impossible.”
“Not even Elias Sterling can touch her surgical record.”
“If you alienate her, you’re going to bitterly regret it down the line.”
Hanson claimed it was just a force of habit, but subconsciously, hadn’t he viewed Claire as a subordinate?
If he had owed Caleb his life, would he have just shoved a stock portfolio in his face?
Absolutely not.
He would have handled it with infinitely more finesse and respect.
He would have made sure Caleb felt deeply honored, not bought off.
In short, Hanson still didn’t view
Claire as an equal. In his mind, he san elte benefactor rewarding a talented peasant.
Hanson sat in silence, utterly obliterated by Caleb’s brutal assessment.
“I didn’t think it through. It won’t happen again,” he muttered.
Hanson sighed heavily. Caleb’s words had struck a nerve, forcing him to re-evaluate his entire worldview.
Was he really this arrogant when dealing with people outside his tax bracket?
It was a miracle no one had dragged him into an alley and beaten him to death yet.
Caleb remained silent, thinking to himself: You’re assuming she’ll give you a next time.
Claire had busted her back saving a life because she cared about Hillary, not because she gave a damn about Hanson.
If Hanson ever called her for an emergency again, Caleb heavily doubted she would even answer the phone.
Just because the girl was quiet didn’t mean she was a pushover.
However, Caleb and Hanson had been buddies since childhood.
He wasn’t taking sides, but since Hanson asked for help, he was
going to try smoothing things net
over.
How Claire reacted to it was entirely out of his hands.
Caleb knew an apology like this couldn’t be handled over a quick phone call.
He decided to ask Claire out for dinner over the weekend to talk it out.
Unfortunately, Caleb was destined to be rejected.
The second Claire finished her Friday classes, she was dragged away by Barry and
his medical team.
There was a massive conference the
next day, and Barry wanted to
extensively brief her on the
networking dynamies before she took the floor.
Claire was deeply grateful for the mentorship and focused entirely on his lecture.
So when Caleb finally called that night to invite her to dinner, Claire immediately shot him down without a second thought.
