Chapter 1635
[ 596 words ]
“Why are you looking at me like that? She’s not my student; she’s an active participant in our bone cancer trial.”
Barry had fully intended to introduce Claire during this event, so he naturally ushered her into the spotlight.
“She is the absolute core of our new therapeutic direction and the driving force behind the targeted medication for bone cancer.”
Barry spared no expense in his praise for Claire.
The other doctor immediately perked up. “Oh? You’re telling me the linchpin of your groundbreaking trial is this young lady? Barry, don’t try to pull a fast one on me!”
“I honestly thought you were going to formally introduce Lawler to everyone today.” Claire shot the doctor a helpless look.
Why did his words carry such a strong scent of instigation?
Had Barry offended him in the past?
Lawler, noticing her expression, offered Claire a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. He and my mentor go way back-they were college bunkmates.”
“It’s just that Dr. Terrance’s personality matches his name perfectly; he’s got a bit of a childish streak.”
Claire instantly understood. The man was basically an overgrown kid.
Even if he wasn’t terribly old, his tight-knit history with Barry meant he spoke without a filter.
Claire couldn’t care less, as long as the man wasn’t actually Barry’s sworn enemy. “Lawler doesn’t need an introduction; he’s already made a name for himself,” Barry said, visibly proud of his star pupil.
“But Claire is different. She’s a rising star, completely in a league of her own.”
Dr. Terrance finally turned a serious, appraising gaze toward Claire.
“Seems we have a little prodigy on our hands.”
Barry looked thoroughly smug. “Obviously. She’s currently studying at Cabinda Medical School.”
Dr. Terrance had married before Barry, and his own daughter was already married with children, so he hadn’t kept up with the latest gossip from the top universities.
Hearing this, his curiosity piqued. “Wait, isn’t your son at the university too?”
“Is she…” he trailed off, clearly wondering if Claire was Barry’s prospective daughter-in-law.
It wasn’t a crazy leap for Dr.
with
to make. He had never
old friend treat a
such profound respecg girl
If she really was his future daughter-in-law, grooming her for the medical field made perfect sense.
If the girl had unparalleled talent, Barry had hit the absolute jackpot.
“She is in the same class as my son, yes,” Barry said, rolling his eyes at Dr. Terrance, But she runs absolute. circles around him.
“She’s been studying both Western and Traditional Medicine since she was a kid. My son isn’t even in the same stratosphere.”
He wasn’t trying to tear his own son down; he simply held Claire in that high of regard.
In Barry’s eyes, his son was still learning to walk, while this girl was already leading the charge.
He had briefly entertained the daughter-in-law idea, but quickly abandoned it.
After all, Claire was already engaged to an extraordinarily successful man.
“If she’s that incredible, where on earth did you dig her up?”
Dr. Terrance looked at Claire with growing fascination.
“Pure serendipity,” Barry replied smoothly.
“Oh, please.” Dr. Terrance scoffed. “Since when do you act all mystical?”
“I’m completely serious. She knew a patient with bone cancer and was using acupuncture to manage their pain.”
“Actually, you’ve met the patient. Remember Jennifer, the owner of Hearth & Kettle, where I took you to eat?”
“Jennifer? You mean that cheerful woman with the amazing recipes?” Dr. Terrance surprisingly remembered.
It wasn’t just because the food was divine, but because Jennifer herself had a fantastic sense of humor.
Of course, Dr. Terrance’s main takeaway had been her flawless culinary execution.
Even her own daughter couldn’t replicate the magic of those dishes.
“Exactly. That’s her.” Barry knew that if he brought up food, his old friend’s memory would be razor-sharp.
