Chapter 1653
[ 632 words ]
“Yeah—I have to attend a jewelry show soon.”
Claire was completely honest.
Dr. Gerald opened his mouth, wanting to advise her to focus all her attention on her medical studies.
But he had no real authority over her, and saying that would only make him sound
like a nag.
“You should head out then,” Barry interjected, smoothly getting Claire out of the awkward spot.
Since Barry had given her an out, the others couldn’t exactly pressure her to stay. “I’m sorry, everyone. I need to get going.”
She had already sent her location to Dane, and she figured he had probably arrived by now.
She still needed to touch up her makeup and change into a different outfit, and she wasn’t sure if she’d have enough time.
The moment Claire rushed out, the other doctors started voicing their opinions.
“She’s incredibly talented, but at a time like this, when everyone else is cherishing every second of discussion, she’s off to some frivolous jewelry show.”
Dr. Gerald nodded in agreement with the speaker.
“The young girl is still too focused on having fun. A genius like her should be seizing every moment to absorb more knowledge.”
“Even though us old-timers might not be world-class experts, she could still learn a lot from these exchanges.”
Dr. Gerald had been eager to pass on everything he knew, but before he could even offer, the star of the show had bolted. It was frustrating!
“Sigh, it’s so rare to find a true medical prodigy. It’s a shame she’s still a kid and hasn’t settled down yet.”
These doctors were pure-hearted; they simply hated to see talent wasted.
Barry let out a long sigh. “There are more classes later, aren’t there? It’s not like she’s never coming back.”
“Don’t worry, everyone. You’ll definitely have plenty of chances to talk with her.”
“She’s young. There’s nothing wrong with her liking jewelry,” Barry added, defending her.
Although they didn’t have a formal teacher-student relationship, he cared for her just as much as if she were his own student.
In fact, Claire held nearly the same place in Barry’s heart as his own son.
“There’s nothing wrong with liking jewelry, but the material world is full of temptations. If she gets blinded by wealth. Dr. Gerald safe, clasping his hands behind his back, his face etched with worry.
Barry hesitated, thinking to himself that with Claire’s skills, she could easily fund her own luxurious lifestyle.
“She doesn’t look like someone strapped for cash to me. Otherwise,
she wouldn’t even be going to k
place like a jewelry show.”
Another doctor chimed in.
It was true. An average person wouldn’t even receive an invitation to an exclusive jewelry show.
They were definitely overthinking it.
When Claire arrived at the university gates, she immediately spotted Dane’s car.
As she approached, Dane stepped out to open the door for her.
“I drove myself today.”
Claire pointed toward the parking lot across the street.
Visitor vehicles weren’t allowed on campus, so she had been forced to park in the public lot outside.
“Give the keys to River Green. He can drive it back for you.”
In truth, Claire’s bodyguards were close by, but they couldn’t exactly reveal
themselves or easily separate from her.
That was why Dane didn’t suggest having her own guards move the car.
Claire agreed and slid into the passenger seat. Dane instinctively raised a hand to shield her head from the doorframe.
He performed the protective gesture with such smooth familiarity that it was clearly second nature to him.
The guy in the plaid shirt who had just walked out of the campus gates, along with his friend, saw the entire exchange.
His friend nudged him. “Stop staring.

Even from a distance, the man’s effortless elegance was undeniable. Their buddy couldn’t compete with that.
“Give it up, son. Stop staring. Girls like that are out of your league.”
Guys sharing a dorm loved calling each other ‘son’ as a joke.
