Chapter 1652
[ 643 words ]
He didn’t know who invented the thing, but out on the streets, it worked far better than his own two legs.
“You can’t stay home alone. If something happens to you, what am I supposed to do?” Latham was completely relying on his son now.
He knew a comeback in the business world was practically impossible.
Even if he took his mother’s money and started a new company, his industry rivals would relentlessly target him.
Lance, on the other hand, was just a younger generation kid. There probably weren’t nearly as many people watching his every move.
Latham knew he had offended way too many people during his career. Now, he just wanted to hide at home and avoid the endless sneers and mockery.
It was just like him and Octavia; back in the day, they were the model couple everyone praised when they went out.
Now, they were the absolute laughingstock of the city.
When disaster struck, most couples simply separated. They, however, managed to end up with one bankrupt and the other in prison.
Latham was probably the only man whose wife and mistress had both ended up behind bars at the same time.
Of course, there were plenty of people mocking the two women for being foolish. Even if they had joined forces to lock Latham up, they shouldn’t have dragged themselves down with him.
Latham, that absolute bastard, had somehow managed to walk away unscathed while two women went to prison for him. Having a wealthy mother certainly had its perks!
Regardless of how people cursed him behind his back, Latham hadn’t suffered any actual physical consequences.
In fact, he had reaped quite a few benefits.
At the end of the day, Latham had thrown money at the problem to make it go away.
He was perfectly willing to part with the cash because he had the ultimate safety net.
After all, his mother had endless resources. Would she really let him starve?
But precisely because he relied on her so heavily, she absolutely refused to coddle him anymore.
“I can handle it,” Lance said with absolute certainty.
He didn’t want his grandmother yelling at his father anymore, and he definitely didn’t want her worrying about them.
Mary’s gaze finally softened a fraction as she looked at Lance.
“If you had matured a little earlier, none of this would have happened.”
“Lance, do you regret not coming clean the moment you realized there was something wrong with Claire’s identity?”
Mary was deeply disappointed in her grandson.
To her, it was entirely immoral for him to have lusted after his own
sister. Even if they werent wel
blood-related, they had grown up together.
If he liked her, he should have at least been honorable about it, instead, he had resorted to

Sometimes, Mary truly didn’t understand what was going through his head.
She could only chalk it up to the younger generation being utterly incomprehensible.
“Grandma, I know I was wrong.” The car crash had long since beaten the arrogance out of Lance.
He hadn’t completely given up on life yet simply because he understood his responsibilities.
That, and his grandmother’s constant pressure.
“It’s good that you know you were
em just worried that after et
wrong, I’m
everything that has happened you’re still harboring, delusions.”
Lance froze. Delusions? About Claire?
Even if he harbored delusions, Claire would never let him act on them. What was the point?
“I’m sorry, Grandma. I’ve let you down.”
Mary didn’t bother saying more. The very next day, she secured a job for Latham.
A security guard at Apex Traditional Medicine University!
The salary was roughly a few hundred dollars a month—not high, but the work was relatively easy.
Whether Latham wanted to or not, his mother personally drove him to report for his first day.
Claire, meanwhile, had no idea about the current plight of Latham and Lance.
After finishing her class and chatting with the other doctors for about ten minutes, she kept checking her phone.
Her behavior was glaringly obvious.
“Do you have somewhere to be, Claire?” Dr. Gerald asked with an understanding smile.
