Neither Rory nor Jace had expected that their charge would manage to plunge herself into a massive intelligence war just by saving a random guy on the street.
“Claire…” Rory still wanted to stay glued to Claire’s side; keeping her safe was their only priority.
“Just call me Claire. Didn’t we agree on that?”
Rory nodded. “Right. Claire, you’re in serious danger right now. Don’t forget, you’re the one who saved him.”
“So I’m going to stick right by you, and Jace will monitor the perimeter.”
“You have to trust me on this. Your face might not be famous yet, but if they find out you’re the one who kept him alive, they will absolutely target you.”
There was also a chance they might recognize her medical genius and try to take her alive.
But that would mean the end of any normal life she had left.
Therefore, ensuring Claire’s physical safety was paramount.
Claire knew Rory was right. “Okay. You stay close to me.”
Since the assassins hadn’t shown up yet, Rory quickly ducked away and changed her clothes.
She disguised herself as a nurse reporting for the night shift, loudly complaining to a ‘cousin’ on her phone about the horrible hours.
No one even blinked at the sudden staff change; the actual doctors and nurses just assumed she was a float nurse from another ward.
Not long after, a nurse pushing a medication cart walked down the hall.
The nurse headed straight for the patient’s room. The police officers guarding the door didn’t notice anything suspicious, but Claire’s eyes locked onto her shoes. They were covered in mud!
It had rained briefly that afternoon, but an on-duty nurse wouldn’t be tracking thick mud through the sterile halls.
The walkways outside were all paved concrete. The only way her shoes would look like that was if she hadn’t entered through the front doors.
There was an active construction site behind the hospital. If she had hopped the fence back there, her shoes would look exactly like that.
Claire’s face paled, and she shouted at the police, “That nurse is a fake!”
The officers immediately drew their weapons and charged into the room.
Inside, The Assassin had pulled the man’s IV line and was injecting air into it!
Without hesitation, the two officers lunged forward to subdue her.
Claire sprinted into the room right behind them.
Ignoring the violent struggle between the police and The Assassin she immediately grabbed the
line and flushed the aicbubble

As she screamed, she grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and charged
in.
Before Rory’s arrival, The Assassin had been easily winning the fight.
Even fighting two-on-one, she hadn’t broken a sweat.
The two regular beat cops were no match for a highly trained operative.
If Claire hadn’t been standing right by the bed, The Assassin would have already finished the job.
One of the officers had already taken a vicious slash from a concealed blade.
Hearing Rory’s screams, medical staff from across the floor began running toward
the room, and someone had already radioed security.
Rory used the chaos to seamlessly join the fight, wielding the heavy red cylinder like a battering ram.
Rory swung the fire extinguisher with a ferocious momentum.
“You’re going to ruin everything!”
The Assassin hissed, her voice shrill with fury.
She clearly hadn’t expected this much resistance. She was just here to confirm the target was dead, and

The two cops were nothing, and the female doctor was busy saving the patient,
though she had managed to dodge a few strikes!
But this shrieking nurse swinging a fire extinguisher was genuinely dangerous!
The Assassin briefly wondered if this woman was actually a hospital orderly; how else could she be this strong?
More people were crowding the doorway now, and a brave doctor even charged in swinging a metal IV pole.
