Chapter 1666
[ 636 words ]
The Assassin knew that if she didn’t leave right now, she wasn’t leaving at all.
Her left hand dropped to her lower back. Unable to get close enough to the bed, she whipped a throwing knife directly at the unconscious man.
It was aimed dead center at his throat!
She was a highly trained professional killer!
That was the chilling thought that echoed in the minds of everyone in the room.
The two injured officers lunged desperately to block the blade, but Rory’s eyes remained locked entirely on Claire.
Seeing that Claire was out of the blade’s path, Rory exhaled sharply.
But in the very next second, The Assassin closed the distance and lunged at Claire.
The knife throw had been a diversion!
Her real objective was securing a hostage!
To The Assassin, Claire looked like a frail, unarmed doctor. Although Claire had dodged a few blows earlier, she posed zero physical threat.
If The Assassin wanted to walk out of this hospital alive, grabbing Claire was her safest bet.
Claire sensed the incoming attack, but just as she braced herself to fight back, something hard and metallic jammed into her spine!
“Don’t move!”
The Assassin’s voice sent a shiver down Claire’s spine, and she instantly froze.
Claire strongly suspected this was the same woman who had put a bullet in the man on the bed earlier.
To hunt down a survivor all the way to a heavily guarded hospital… this syndicate was terrifyingly relentless.
“Let’s talk this out. Don’t do anything reckless!”
The two officers paled when they saw the gun pressed against Claire’s back.
Not only was Claire an innocent bystander, but she was also the hero who had just saved the victim’s life. If she got killed on their watch, the police department would never live it down.
“I have nothing to discuss with you pigs. If I tell you to shoot the man on the bed, will you do it?”
The Assassin sneered.
One of the officers held up his hands. “We can’t do that. You know we can’t.”
“Then what use are you?” The Assassin knew these beat cops were powerless.
“Back away. I’m walking out of here. You can manage that much, right?”
“If you try to stop me, I’ll blow her
spine
and then I’ll start putting
bullets into the crowd in the hallway. That blood will be on your hands!”
The threat worked flawlessly.
The terrified crowd of doctors and nurses immediately parted, pressing themselves against the walls.
No one was willing to risk their life just to watch the drama unfold.
The two officers gritted their teeth, realizing this killer was utterly ruthless.
They stepped aside. “Fine. Go.”
The Assassin didn’t fully trust them, keeping her eyes scanning the room.
But the path was indeed clear.
The Assassin glared at Rory. “Drop the extinguisher!”
She had easily handled the two cops, but the woman wielding the fire extinguisher had actually pushed her back.
If the woman hadn’t been wearing scrubs, The Assassin would have assumed she was an undercover agent.
“You really think this thing is a threat?” Rory muttered, though she obediently lowered the heavy cylinder to the floor.
Rory exchanged a fleeting glance
with Jace, who was standing among
the onlookersun
e hallway. They
wordlessly agreed to follow her
outside and wait for an opening to
strike.

Rory was furious with herself. She had been staring right at The Assassin, yet the
woman had still managed to grab Claire.
The killer was simply too fast. After
the feint with the knife, Rory had fully expected her to either retreat or pull a gun to finish the target.
She never expected her to pivot and take Claire hostage instead.
Claire couldn’t hear Rory’s internal guilt.
However, she wasn’t particularly panicked about her own safety. She knew she wasn’t the actual target.
The gun in her back was merely a VIP pass out of the building.
The police reinforcements and the agents from Special Security had to be here by now, right?
Even if The Assassin made it out of the ward, she wouldn’t make it past the hospital gates.
