Chapter 1707
[ 591 words ]
“I swear I didn’t leak any intel. I’ve been completely swamped with my own deals for the past two days.”
“I hope you clear my name once you realize your mistake.”
Gloria spoke with staggering self-righteousness.
Stephen ignored every word of it.
“If you’re innocent, you’ll come back to Solenia with us. Once the investigation is complete, your name will be cleared.”
Gloria finally realized they weren’t going to let her walk.
She went completely silent.
If she kept her mouth shut, what could they really do to her?
“Fine, arrest me and take me back.”
Gloria crossed her arms, wearing an expression of absolute defiance.
Stephen recognized the signs of a seasoned intelligence operative. People like her
were impossibly slippery and rarely left actionable evidence.
Her reckless, panicky act from earlier was just a facade covering a deeply calculating mind.
Unwilling to waste more breath, Stephen ordered her restrained and hauled out.
They locked her in a vehicle, keeping the engines running for an immediate tactical withdrawal.
“Don’t hold your breath waiting for a rescue. If we’re brave enough to bunker down in this hospital, we already have an extraction plan.”
Gloria said nothing.
She knew that if she went missing for more than eight hours, her network would trigger a distress signal.
She hadn’t spent three years building her empire here for nothing.
This woman was a strategic nightmare, and dealing with her was going to be a massive headache.
Stephen frowned, mentally running through his options for handling her.
Meanwhile, Claire and Tandy went to check on Silas Carl.
His vitals were crashing, but if they didn’t move him immediately, the entire team would be trapped.
Dewitt could call in backup, but engaging the local military was a losing game.
เวน
Dewitt couldn’t afford to offend the local government, but the
government was equally motivated by money and didn’t want to upset Dewitt’s operations either.
The region’s supreme commander might be friendly to Solenia, but his subordinates
were heavily aligned with Cascadia and Sundara.
Thankfully, Dewitt had an impressive fleet of armored vehicles.
They carefully transferred Silas into a heavily modified, bulletproof SUV. The
spacious rear seats folded completely flat.
It was a bumpy, uncomfortable ride for Silas, but it was vastly superior to being assassinated in a hospital bed.
“You need to roll out right now. I know a hidden route that bypasses all the military checkpoints.”
“That route cuts straight through Mr.
Charles’s territory. His set.
fled from the mainland
ago,
so he has zero loyalty to Solenia.”
“Because of that, he’s constantly at war with the local General.”
“But our boss, Dewitt, saved Mr. Charles’s grandson a while back. If we ask to pass through, he shouldn’t refuse.”
Their guide was Arthur, one of Dewitt’s most trusted enforcers.
Dewitt had left him in charge of the mining camp because he trusted him implicitly.
Although Arthur didn’t share Dewitt’s last name, he considered him a brother.
Dewitt had ordered him to protect the team with his life and ensure they crossed the
border safely, a mission Arthur took incredibly seriously.
“By the way, didn’t you mention you have a brilliant senior doctor with you?”
Claire shot a glance at Tandy.
Tandy looked at Arthur with mild amusement. “Why? Are you looking for a consultation?”
“You look perfectly healthy to me. I doubt you need a doctor.”
“Oh, it’s not for me,” Arthur quickly clarified. It’s for Mr. Charles’s youngest grandson. The kid has terrible health. He was kidnooped, while back.”
“If Dewitt hadn’t stepped in, the boy wouldn’t have survived.”
“But he suffered catastrophic injuries during the abduction, and he’s never recovered.”
Mr. Charles had spent a fortune flying in top specialists from around the globe to save his grandson.
“He put out a massive open bounty. Anyone who can cure his grandson gets a hundred-million-dollar reward.”
