Chapter 1741
[ 626 words ]
“Yorick?”
Claire frowned instinctively.
She remembered they had only met once. How were they bumping into each other again?
Since when was the campus this small?
Did meeting once guarantee frequent random encounters?
“Since we ran into each other, do you think you could do me a quick favor?”
Yorick put on a deliberately troubled expression.
Any other girl seeing a handsome, slightly melancholic upperclassman asking for help would probably agree without hesitation.
Unfortunately for him, he was dealing with the stone-hearted Claire.
“Sorry, I’m really busy and have to get to class. I doubt I can help you with anything.”
Claire rejected him instantly.
The guy practically had “ulterior motives” written all over his face. She would have to be braindead to interact with him.
Did he really think all wealthy girls were naive idiots who would eagerly throw themselves at him and act as stepping stones for his career just because he beckoned?
Funny enough, that was exactly what Yorick thought.
Relying on his striking looks, he had always had his way with women growing up.
In his mind, Yolande and Claire were just slightly more challenging targets. Between the two, he had set his sights primarily on Claire, and for good reason.
She was young and entirely focused on her studies. Girls like that were obviously starved for affection.
As long as he showed her a little warmth, she would probably become obsessed with him.
At least, that was how it played out in Yorick’s head.
Now that she had bluntly shut him down, his carefully practiced smile stiffened.
“It won’t take much of your time! It’s actually about Yolande!”
“She’s your cousin. You must care about her, right?”
Using Yolande as bait proved he was at least somewhat cunning.
Exactly as he hoped, a flicker of concern appeared in Claire’s eyes. “What’s wrong with my sister?”
“It’s nothing too serious, but class is about to start. How about I treat you to lunch afterward so we can talk in detail?”
Seeing that Claire had taken the bait, Yorick wasn’t about to let the opportunity slip.
Claire, on the other hand, was curious to see what kind of game he was playing.
“I have plans for lunch. I don’t have time.”
“What about tonight?” Yorick refused to give up.
“I don’t have time tonight either.” Claire was planning to have with Mary
and had zero dinnere
waste time on Yorick.
She didn’t even consider the classic move of ordering an expensive feast just to
make him foot the bill.
Because with guys like him, eating on his dime meant he would relentlessly try to extract value back from her while Claire wasn’t afra of him, she didn’t want to scrape him off her shoe like used gum later.
“Then… when are you free?”
If Yorick couldn’t tell she was brushing him off by now, he would be an idiot. Keeping his expression flawlessly polite, he acted entirely accommodating.
Claire thought for a moment. “I don’t have classes for the last two periods this morning. I was planning to go to the library content
“Then could I steal one period of your time to grab a coffee off-campus?”
Claire finally agreed.
Yorick let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“It’s a date, then. Class is about to start, so I won’t hold you up.”
“Shall we head to the academic building together?”
Claire gave a brief “Mm” and walked briskly ahead without looking back.
Yorick quickly realized he was struggling to keep up with her pace.
As a dancer, his stamina was excellent, but Claire was practically power-walking like she was terrified of being late.
He checked his watch and sped up to match her stride.
In reality, he had no classes in this building today. All he needed to do was head to the dance studios.
The practice rooms in this building were inferior to the ones in the main arts center.
That was exactly why, despite being in the same university, Yolande and Claire rarely ran into each other.
