Chapter 1740
[ 622 words ]
Queenie had been searching for her long-lost husband and son for years.
She had built a massive fortune, and though she was prepared to leave it all to her adopted son, she still desperately wanted to find her biological family.
“Did she find them?” Claire asked, intrigued.
Queenie was an absolute powerhouse. She had been forced to leave the country years ago due to turbulent times.
To track down her husband and son, she had spent years funding charities and building schools across the country. It hadn’t been an easy journey.
Claire truly hoped she had received good news.
“Her husband passed away on the battlefield years ago. Her son was given to another family to raise.”
“Later on, that family hit hard times and embezzled the pension money left by the boy’s father.”
“The boy found out, got furious, and completely cut ties with them.”
The kid actually had a lot of nerve.
Since his father had died in the line of duty, he reported the embezzlement straight to the military.
Naturally, the military stepped in to get justice for him. However, he declared that he didn’t even want the stolen pension money back.
All he wanted was to be legally emancipated, completely severing all ties with that family.
Later, the boy got into a local university and eventually married into another family. Pandora didn’t plan on giving Claire all the gritty details.
Claire didn’t press further either. If Queenie had actually found him, it would be a happy ending for everyone.
But Claire was surprised Pandora was willing to accompany her to Montara. Hadn’t the old lady sworn never to leave the James Village?
What Claire didn’t know was that Pandora wasn’t just there to support Queenie; she was also there to visit some old friends.
At her age, traveling to see old friends meant it might be the last time she ever saw them.
Completely unaware of her grandmother’s melancholic thoughts, Claire would have confidently declared that the old lady was going to live to be a hundred!
Pandora took excellent care of her health, had no underlying conditions, and lived in the pristine environment of the James Village. How could she not live a long life?
On the drive back, Claire told Mary about her two current patients.
One was Silas Carl, operated on by Tandy with Claire assisting.
The surgery had been a massive success, and with the military
hospitals top-tier post-op care
Silas
was recovering beautifully.
“It’s great that you get to broaden your horizons by working with Tandy.”
“His surgical skills are flawless, and his success rate is incredibly high.”
“He honed his craft on the battlefield, where keeping the patient alive was the only thing that mattered.”
Mary clearly had a deep respect for Tandy.
They chatted until they arrived at the apartment.
Claire had already prepared the guest room where Hillary Harding had previously stayed for Mary.
“Mary, if you head out first tomorrow, just take my car. If you stay in, you can order takeout.”
“Actually, never mind the takeout. I’ll come back at noon to grab lunch with you.”
“Sounds good. I’ll just wait for you here tomorrow. Mary agreed. She hadn’t planned on going to the
ho too early anyway.

Since Claire had classes the next day, they called it a night.
The next morning, Claire woke up early, grabbed breakfast for them, and headed to
school while Mary went for a morning stroll.
The weather was perfect-not too
cold, not too hot. Claire was wearing
sleeved white dress wearet
looking
eff elegant
She was in a great mood. Having Mary in town gave her a chance to be a good
host.
However, her good mood evaporated the moment she saw who was blocking her path.
“Claire! What a coincidence. Heading to class?”
It was Yorick Thorne. He had been staking out the area for ages after finally finding out her schedule.
He had rehearsed this “casual” greeting in private dozens of times.
All just to impress Claire!
