Chapter 1754
[ 632 words ]
Where else was she going to find a family as wealthy as the Youngs?
Evie paced the halls, her mind buzzing with frustration. To her absolute shock, she ran right into Claire and Mary.
Claire had just brought Mary to check on Lucas Charles’s condition.
Mary had been immensely fascinated by his complex case.
As a leading orthopedic specialist herself, she immediately requested to observe the upcoming surgery alongside Walton and Claire.
She didn’t want to intervene; she simply wanted to witness the mechanics of such an intricate procedure from the front row.
Claire, of course, had no objections.
To her, the older woman was a stabilizing force.
It all came down to whether Dr. Walton would agree.
But Claire figured he wouldn’t mind either.
Ironically, the only people who might actually take issue with it were Lucas and his grandfather.
Claire immediately went to discuss the matter with Lucas.
The moment Lucas heard that Dr. Mary was a top orthopedic surgeon in Apex, renowned as a master with the scalpel, he happily agreed to let her observe.
With Lucas on board, Mr. Charles naturally fell into line.
As a result, both grandfather and grandson were in excellent spirits as Claire and Mary stepped out of the ward.
It suddenly dawned on Claire that Quentin Young was also staying on this floor.
This was the VIP wing. What kind of connections did an ordinary student like Quentin have to secure a room here?
It couldn’t just be about money, could it?
Before she could even finish that thought, she bumped straight into Evie.
Claire genuinely disliked Evie, and she had zero interest in entertaining her nonsense.
Taking Mary’s arm, she tried to walk right past her.
But her silence only seemed to fuel Evie’s audacity.
“You again? Talk about bad luck!”
“The things you sisters will do just to get your claws into Quentin. It’s pathetic.”
Evie subconsciously ignored the fact that Claire was linking arms with an elderly
woman.
She just wanted to spit venom.
Before Claire could even open her mouth, Mary took offense.
Was this spiteful creature actually speaking to them?
“Young lady, who exactly are you?”
Mary furrowed her brow, her stern expression carrying a naturally intimidating weight.
Evie hadn’t expected the old bat to jump into a conversation that was clearly meant for Claire.
“Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that you need to keep
your granddaughter on a ti eeppet
leash Stop letting her run around throwing herself at men
“Stealing someone else’s fiancé isn’t going to end well.” Evie lifted her chin,
brimming with arrogance.
Mary was completely lost. “My
granddaughter already has a fiance. She has no need to throw herself a anyone else’s. I suggest you watch your tone!”
Though Mary remained stern, her defense of Claire was unwavering.
Evie froze for a second, suddenly remembering that Claire was, in fact, engaged.
But she quickly pivoted to her own twisted logic. “If she has a fiancé, then she has even less business meddling in other people’s relationships!”
“Are you just trying to steal a man for your cousin?”
Claire let out a laugh, utterly exasperated by the mental gymnastics.
“Does my cousin look like she’s desperate for men?”
Claire was speechless.
This girl was suffering from severe delusions.
“If she’s not desperate, then she should stay the hell away from other people’s fiancés!”
Evie glared, completely unapologetic.
So what if she wasn’t desperate? Was Evie supposed to be the only woman in the world desperate for a man?
If she couldn’t even lock down the guy she grew up with, she’d be a laughingstock for the rest of her life.
“My cousin is his dance partner. Her visit was purely out of common courtesy.”
“But rest assured, with a self-proclaimed, nightmarish ‘fiancée’ like you hovering around, I highly doubt she’ll ever visit him again.”
Claire thought to herself that even if Yolande was the kindest person on earth, she would never risk being branded a homewreckerjustto,
check on Quentin.
As for Quentin’s leg-he was just going to have to accept his terrible luck!
