Chapter 1753
[ 619 words ]
“You really shouldn’t have let her come. I told you a long time ago, nothing is ever going to happen between us.”
“I only ever saw her as a childhood buddy, and as we grew up, we naturally drifted apart.”
Quentin had mentioned this before, but Yvette had never taken it seriously.
In her eyes, Evie’s personality had its flaws, but she was fundamentally a good kid.
Plus, she was a beautiful girl. Yvette had genuinely believed a union between their families would be ideal.
But now, it was obvious her son couldn’t stand the sight of her, and honestly, Evie didn’t seem to truly care for Quentin either.
Her constant complaining had even made Yvette wonder if her own son was really as awful as Evie made him out to be.
“Son, tell me the truth. Do you have feelings for your dance partner?”
Yvette recalled the accusations Evie had hurled earlier.
If her son really liked this girl, was he just blindly trusting her medical advice out of infatuation?
“Mom, let me guess, Evie has been running her mouth to you again?”
Quentin let out a heavy sigh.
“It doesn’t matter who said what. I just want to know how you feel.”
“I do like her, yes. But she doesn’t feel the same way. I just… whatever, it’s impossible between us anyway.”
“Why is it impossible?” Yvette asked, entirely confused by her son’s profound dejection.
“She’s incredibly wealthy, beautiful, and a Cabinda local. I can barely even stand up right now, let alone return to the stage.”
Quentin sighed again. “Anyway, Mom, just drop it.”
“The priority right now is getting Evie a ticket back to Montara. As for me, I need to get in touch with the med student my partner recommended.”
Yvette didn’t immediately shoot down her son’s request, but she had her own reservations. “It’s not that I don’t trust your friends, but this whole thing sounds completely absurd.”
“Give me some time to ask around first.”
“As for Evie, I’ll call her mother and have her brought home.”
“You just focus on resting.”
Yvette was a decisive woman.
Since her son was this repulsed by.
Evie, and the girl was completelyet
useless in a hospital setting anyway, seriding her away was a no bramér
More importantly, Evie’s earlier remarks made Yvette realize the girl was acting dangerously erratic.
She couldn’t allow Evie to stay around Quentin any longer.
“Look into it if you can, Mom. If you can’t find anything, don’t sweat it.”
“Or, we could just ask Yolande directly.”
Quentin remembered the junior
student named Claire he had met yesterday. She clearly had some bad blood with Evie, and after all that drama she might not even be willing to treat him anymore.
Asking might be a total waste of time.
Quentin looked defeated, but Yvette rallied her spirits.
“Don’t worry. I will find a way.”
“You love the stage, and no matter what it takes, I’m going to find a way to heal you.”
He was her only son. Though he wasn’t coddled quite like some daughters, he was her absolute treasure.
Stepping out of the room, Yvette felt a wave of relief when she saw Evie wasn’t lingering in the hallway.
Evie’s volatile temper was starting to wear her thin.
She needed to hurry and track down Quentin’s attending physician to get a proper grasp of the situation.
Meanwhile, Evie was storming down the corridor in a foul mood.
Yvette’s reaction had been entirely different from what she had banked on.
She had assumed that by
emotionally manipulating the
mother son duo, her future would be
secured without having to lifta
finger.

Who would have guessed that Yvette, who had always doted on her, would
suddenly take her son’s side instead of hers?
Sure, they were blood, but Evie felt she had sacrificed so much.
If she couldn’t keep Quentin under her thumb, was she supposed to just sit back
and watch him end up with another woman?
