Chapter 1771
[ 530 words ]
“Queenie, could we just collect the dividends? Since you already have an heir, why not let him manage the domestic assets too?” Quentin’s usual sharpness vanished into a naive inquiry.
“Exactly, Mom, that’s what we were thinking.” Yvette chimed in. “Honestly, running a few supermarkets is already exhausting for me, not to mention the beauty salon I just opened.”
Yvette had opened the salon purely for networking. It generated a profit while maintaining connections for her supermarkets, bringing in a substantial annual income despite her lack of corporate ambition.
“You two really don’t have a single ambitious bone in your bodies.” Queenie laughed helplessly.
Her previous concerns were completely irrelevant with them.
“Queenie, did you get married abroad?” Quentin asked suddenly.
Yvette’s expression shifted. “Quentin!”
“It’s fine, it’s natural for a child to be curious. No, I didn’t get married, and I don’t have any other children.”
“The heir abroad is my adopted son.”
“As long as I’m around, I can keep him in check. But once I’m gone, how can you guarantee he won’t swallow up the estate that rightfully belongs to you?”
“Handing over your businesses for someone else to manage is never a wise choice, unless you’re both completely hopeless.”
Truthfully, Queenie felt a pang of regret.
Her son had followed in his father’s footsteps, her grandson was obsessed with the arts, and her only daughter-in-law in the business world was perfectly content with mediocrity.
“Queenie, I can learn from you, but I don’t want to give up dancing.” Quentin compromised.
He knew his mother’s personality. If she were forced to take over the empire, she would only struggle to keep it afloat.
Why force it?
It was his responsibility, and he needed to step up.
Besides, even though Queenie had offered to take him abroad for treatment,
Quentin wasn’t entirely sure he would ever dance again.
If he could no longer take the stage, he needed other survival skills.
Queenie was a formidable force, and he could learn a lot by her side.
“I won’t restrict your life.” Having spent years abroad, Queenie held a distinctly Western mindset.
“Thank you, Queenie.”
The rest of the meal was harmonious.
Queenie brought up Evie Grant. “Yvette, why didn’t I see that girl who was with you this morning?”
Yvette hadn’t expected her
mother-in-law to ask. “She’s been in
Cabinda for a while. Since I’m here
to take
care of Quentin she headed
back to Montara.”

“She helped take care of your son. You should have at least invited her for a casual lunch.”
Yvette couldn’t quite grasp Queenie’s underlying meaning.
She could tell Queenie disliked Evie, so why force a dinner invitation?
Before Yvette could respond, Queenie added, “She did us a huge favor. Even if we don’t treat her to a meal we must ensure she’s property compensated with a generous gift.”
Hearing this, Quentin understood the matriarch’s intention.
“Queenie is right. We will definitely show her our gratitude.”
Yvette finally caught on. Queenie wanted her to handle the social etiquette flawlessly, leaving no room for gossip.
After all, Evie had genuinely come to care for Quentin.
Even though Quentin considered her a hindrance, the public didn’t know that.
Outsiders only saw a young woman risking her reputation to devotedly care for him.
While the local culture wasn’t
archaic, it wasn’t overly liberal either.
If Evie spread rumors upon her
return, Quentin’s reputation would take a massive hit.
