Chapter 1775
[ 503 words ]
She couldn’t exactly wait for Dane to arrive and drag an unconscious student to the ER together.
“No can do,” the guard said. “She’s out cold. She needs a hospital immediately. You better grab a cab and take her yourself.”
While he wanted to help, he was tethered to the security monitors and couldn’t play nursemaid.
If things went south, he wouldn’t know what to do.
Under normal circumstances, if a student got hurt, he would have rallied others to help.
But since the girl had approached Claire directly, the responsibility landed squarely on her shoulders.
Claire was about to say she didn’t have time, but the guard was clearly swamped.
“Tell you what,” the guard compromised. “I’ll call a campus vehicle to run her over to the clinic, but you have to go with her!”
“She came to you, and I can’t leave this undocumented.”
The guard wanted to avoid liability, which Claire understood.
She handed over her student ID.
“I’m Claire, clinical medicine major. My number is…”
Claire recited her contact info.
The guard recognized her instantly as the medical school’s rising star.
He was about to agree when someone called out to her.
“Claire.” It was Norris.
He looked surprised to see her holding an unconscious girl.
“Norris,” Claire greeted him naturally. In front of other students, she kept her tone professional.
Norris was used to it.
He hurried over. “What happened?”
He took the girl’s weight off Claire, stepping in to help.
However, to maintain professional boundaries, Norris carefully avoided pulling the girl into a full embrace.
“She was messing around on a skateboard and nearly took me out. I dodged, and she face-planted into the gate.”
Claire pointed at the massive swelling on the girl’s forehead.
It looked brutal.
Norris immediately asked another professor who had walked out with higs to drive the girl to the hospital. Gontent
The professor waved them off, urging the two of them to get going.
The professor was close with Norris and was more than happy to help.
Norris reassured Claire. “Don’t worry about it. It had nothing to do with you anyway.”
“I know.” Claire wasn’t stressed.
Had she not been quick, she would have taken the brunt of the impact.
Given the force of the collision, she definitely would have been injured.
She wouldn’t have felt guilty leaving the girl on the curb.
But she wasn’t quite that cold-blooded.
Knowing someone was handling it was a huge relief.
“Let’s go. Time for dinner.”
Only then did Claire remember Norris was heading to the same gathering.
She should have coordinated with him instead of waiting for Dane.
Dane being stuck in traffic was just burning daylight.
“Hold on.” Claire checked her phone and saw the call was still connected.
e quicklydifted it to her ear.

“It’s faster than waiting for you in this traffic.”
“Just head straight to the restaurant.”
A brief silence followed. “…Alright. Did you get that situation sorted out?”
He had heard the near-collision perfectly.
“All handled.”
Claire and Norris arrived at the restaura

Reserving a table here required serious wealth and connections.
The chefs boasted Michelin-level credentials.
A single meal cost a small fortune.
But to Padgett and Baldrick, money was no object.
