Chapter 1774

With the elders’ plans set, Claire had no choice but to attend.
Mary was also invited.
As the woman who had practically raised Claire, Mary was deeply respected.
Without her guidance, Claire wouldn’t be the exceptional young woman she was today.
Padgett was incredibly grateful to Mary for that.
As a result, the dinner party required Claire, Dane, and Norris to act as the younger companions.
Right after her afternoon classes, Claire quickly packed her bag.
She didn’t need to pick anyone up, but Dane was supposed to meet her at the campus gates.
“What’s the rush, Claire?”
Priscilla Hastings asked, originally hoping to visit Claire’s apartment to seek clinical advice from Mary.
Seeing Claire in a hurry, she didn’t want to intrude.
Mary had offered her mentorship, saying she could ask Claire if she was busy.
But Priscilla knew Claire was always swamped and hated being a bother.
Although Mary was officially there for work, hosting seminars and training sessions was effortless for a retired veteran like her.
“I have a family dinner tonight.”
Priscilla paused, remembering Claire’s prominent family in Cabinda.
It was obvious Mary would be attending as well.
“Alright, I’ll see you later,” Priscilla said with a wave.
Claire didn’t linger. She headed straight for the campus gates.
Dane was delayed, so Claire decided to grab a cab instead.
She called Dane to let him know.
He answered quickly. “Claire, give me a minute, I’m on my way. There’s a wreck up ahead, traffic is crawling…”
Before Dane could finish, Claire heard a shout. “Watch out!”
She dodged instinctively as a girl on a skateboard careened toward her.
Claire’s reflexes saved her, but the

With a sickening thud, the heavy metal rattled.
The girl’s agonized scream made Claire wince.
She was incredibly thankful she had moved so fast.
Through the phone, Dane heard the chaos. “What happened?”
“Nothing major. Someone was skateboarding outside the gates without the skills to
back it up.”
The girl clutched a massive welt

“I’m so sorry! It’s my fault, I barely know how to ride this thing and I lost control.”
She looked like a high schooler, or perhaps a freshman like Claire.
“It’s fine, you didn’t hit me.”
Claire eyed the angry red bump on the girl’s head. “You should get to a hospital you might have a
concussion.” Content bel

The girl agreed but swayed heavily. “Could you… help me? I feel so dizzy…”
Before she could finish, she collapsed into Claire’s arms.
“Hey!” Claire hadn’t expected her to drop like a stone.
Supporting the girl with one arm, she checked her pulse with her free hand.
Her vitals were steady; she had genuinely passed out from the impact.
Claire had places to be. Taking her to the emergency room would completely derail her evening.
But she couldn’t exactly dump an unconscious girl on the pavement. Who would step up to help?
She thought of the security booth.
Carrying the girl over, she addressed the guard.
“Can I leave her here for a moment? I’ll call an ambulance.”
It was the only logical solution.
