Chapter 1783
[ 669 words ]
Jace James had been itching to pick some, but Rory James had stopped him.
She declared that the fruit was exclusively the Clan Successor’s joy, and he was absolutely forbidden from laying a hand on them.
Jace had been rebellious about it at the time, but now he totally understood.
These figs weren’t just the Clan Successor’s joy; they were also a special treat for her fiancé.
Dane actually swapped his shoes and walked out onto the balcony to pick the fruit himself.
The balcony featured an enclosed greenhouse. While the fig trees could survive outdoors in this weather, they had been kept safely in the glass enclosure during the winter.
Spotting two perfectly ripe figs, Dane plucked them both.
He handed one to Claire and tasted the other himself.
“It really is sweet. Guess the effort paid off.”
Claire nodded in agreement. “It definitely did. I’m honestly thrilled we managed to grow them this well in the North.”
She had thought she was too full for another bite, but she still managed to finish the sweet fruit.
After eating, she walked Dane out.
Once he was gone, she retreated to her room to wash up and go to sleep.
The night passed quietly.
Claire had classes the next day, and her internal clock woke her up early.
Breakfast was brought over by Finnian White from next door.
He had practically become their dedicated personal chef.
Not only was he cooking for the father and son he was initially assigned to, but he had also taken on a pair of neighbors a mother and daughter.
Now, without even leaving his apartment, Finnian was pulling in four hundred dollars a day just in extra side income.
He also cooked a portion for Claire, though that was a completely separate, unpaid favor.
Finnian figured that if he stayed on this assignment long enough, he’d eventually make enough side cash to buy a house in Cabinda.
The mother and daughter duo had even offered to introduce a younger sister to him, purely so they could secure a long-term supply of his cooking.
Finnian took on one security detail and was practically on the verge of scoring both a house and a wife.
Naturally, Finnian politely declined their offer.
In his eyes, he was on active duty. How could he possibly entertain the idea of dating?
If he got distracted by romance on the job and something went wrong, he would never forgive himself.
When Claire casually found out about this, she thought Finnian was overthinking it.
She had more than one bodyguard, and Finnian wasn’t required to shadow her every single second.
If he wanted to make time to date and settle down, his superiors back at the agency would probably be thrilled.
Finnian had rejected the setup, but rumor had it the mother hadn’t given up. She occasionally brought he

girl pick up their meals.
The sister had already met Finnian.
With his clean-cut, scholarly looks and killer culinary skills, the girl was smitten at first sight.
As for what would happen next, it all depended on the girl’s sheer perseverance.
Well, that, and when Finnian’s iron-clad defenses would finally crumble.
The other bodyguards, including
Rory and Jace, were secretly taking

The girl wasn’t drop-dead gorgeous, but she had fair skin, big expressive eyes, and
an undeniably cute charm.
A lot of men found that kind of girl entirely irresistible.

When Claire came back for lunch, she bumped right into the girl in the elevator.
“Hi there! You’re the girl who lives next door to Finnian, right?”
The girl proactively struck up a conversation with Claire.
“I’m Claire,” she smiled, knowing full well the girl had done her homework to get closer to Finnian.
Even if Claire hadn’t introduced herself, the girl definitely already knew her name.
“I’m Yara Yarrow.”
Yara wasn’t exactly a common surname, and the girl was exactly as lively and dynamic as she appeared.
“Nice to meet you,” Claire smiled back.
This gave Yara a boost of courage. “Claire, can I call you that?”
“I’m probably a few years older than you, so you can call me Yara.”
