Chapter 1798
[ 695 words ]
She hadn’t yet realized that Yanni had already planned to dump her.
He had paid six months of rent upfront; that was the absolute extent of his investment in her.
Meanwhile, the moment Lincoln arrived at the office that afternoon, he officially submitted his overseas transfer application.
Dane signed off on it without a second of hesitation.
“You leave in a week.”
Dane was giving him time to decompress.
“Spend the next two days handing over your projects. You can do whatever you
want with the rest of the time-go visit your parents, or just take a trip and clear your head.”
Dane wasn’t exactly known for being warm and fuzzy, but he treated the secretary who had stood by his side for years incredibly well.
He had considered every possible angle for him.
Even taking Claire to that specific restaurant the night before had been entirely premeditated.
He had done it specifically to rip the mask off Lincoln’s girlfriend.
Because Dane had realized that his razor-sharp secretary was actually quite an idiot when it came to romance.
If Bianca had been even slightly smarter, she would have fully supported Lincoln’s overseas promotion.
She could have let Lincoln fly out completely wracked with guilt, while she stayed behind, stringing her rich boy toy along and living in luxury.
When Lincoln eventually returned, she could have weaponized that guilt to make him cater to her every whim for the rest of his life.
Even Claire had realized when she got home last night that Dane had orchestrated the entire situation just so Lincoln would catch them red-handed.
She genuinely didn’t know if Dane was cold-blooded or deeply compassionate.
He treated his secretary this well?
When Lincoln fully realized what happened, he was going to be fiercely loyal to Dane for the rest of his life!
“Understood, Mr. Green.”
Lincoln was, in fact, profoundly grateful to Dane.
If it hadn’t been for his boss, he might have wasted years of his life going down a completely ruined path.
He could have been agonizing over how to work harder to give his girlfriend a home, while she was out partying with other men.
He had been ready to sacrifice his entire career trajectory for her, while she had discarded him for cash without a second thought.
Lincoln really was unlucky in love.
But he was incredibly lucky to have a boss who actually looked out for him.
In that moment, he felt an
overwhelming wave of relief that he hadn’t rushed into marrying Bianca, choosing instead to wait until he was financially secure beføre proposing.
“Were you looking at buying an apartment recently? Did you close on one?”
Dane suddenly asked right before Lincoln turned to leave.
Lincoln paused. “Not yet.”
He had picked one out ages ago. With his upcoming quarterly bonus, he would have finally had enough for the down payment.
But now, the idea of buying the place he had envisioned for them felt like a sick joke.
Dane slid a few floor plans across the desk. “Employees who make significant contributions to the company are rewarded with property.”
“I’m entirely confident you’ll hit that milestone within the next five years.”
Lincoln had been with the company for five years. Five more would make it a decade.
Dane was essentially advancing him the bonus to ensure he stayed loyal to Vertex International.
Lincoln knew he was well compensated, but he never dreamed he’d be handed a free apartment.
Real estate in Cabinda, no matter the size, was worth a fortune.
Not to mention, the apartments Vertex International gave their top executives were in prime locations, surrounded by luxury amenities and were always at least a two-bed layout.
The plans Lincoln was looking at right now were all two-bedrooms, but they weren’teramped starter homes. At over six hundred square feet, it was more than enough space for a married couple.
“Mr. Green, could you possibly hold one of these for me?”
“When I come back from overseas, I’ll officially earn it!”
He didn’t want Dane bending the rules for him; he wanted to secure the bonus through his own sheer merit.
But Dane insisted he choose one immediately. “They’re already fully furnished. You can move in tonight.”
“While you’re abroad for the next two years, you can have it remodeled however you want.”
“As for your ex-girlfriend, she’s going to get dumped very soon.”
Dane stated it as an absolute fact.
