Chapter 1832
[ 530 words ]
“No,” Yolande said. She knew if she told her, Ewan would never know a day of peace again.
He was just a classmate. He didn’t owe her anything, and there was no need to drag him into this mess.
He had already suffered enough tonight, and she didn’t even know how to apologize properly.
Claire glanced at Ewan.
Ewan immediately spoke up. “I just got yelled at. It’s no big deal.”
He looked worriedly at Yolande’s cheek, holding a small jar of ointment. “But Yolande’s face needs some attention, or it’s going to swell up badly.”
He couldn’t fathom how a mother could strike her own daughter like that.
“I’ll help her apply it,” Claire said, taking the ointment.
She noticed Ewan’s deep concern for Yolande and wondered if she was intruding on a moment.
Claire’s touch was gentle but firm. Yolande tried her best to endure the sting, but tears still rolled down her cheeks.
Sometimes, she wished she didn’t have a mother. Living with just her brother would have been enough. Otherwise, with a mother who constantly tried to drive a wedge between them, she and her brother might end up as enemies one day.
“Does it still hurt?” Ewan asked, his voice tight with sympathy as he handed Yolande a tissue. He wanted nothing more than to wipe away her tears himself but held back, afraid of crossing a line.
“It’s better. This ointment is amazing,” Yolande said, forcing a brave smile.
It was true; the soothing coolness had already numbed the stinging heat on her cheek.
Claire observed the two of them.
There was nothing inherently wrong with their interaction, but…
She could sense an undeniable romantic tension simmering between them.
“What are you going to do about your mom? If you go back, will she lash out again?”
Ewan was clearly anxious about sending her back to that environment.
“No,” Yolande said, knowing Tiffany all too well. “She’ll just apologize and say she did it all for my own good.”
“And then she’ll pressure you to go on a date with that divorced guy, right?” Ewan struggled to suppress his anger.
What kind of mother pushed her daughter into a fire pit? If that man was as great as Tiffany claimed, why was he divorced? The fact that sex-wife had fled the country afterward strongly suggested his powerful family had made it
impossible for her to stay.
“I…” Yolande trailed off. She couldn’t defend her mother because that was exactly what Tiffany would do.
“Yolande, why don’t you stay at the old estate for a few days?” Claire suggested. “Tiffany wouldn’t dare make a scene there Even if she thed, Grandpa would put her in her place.”
When the old patriarch lost his
temper it was terrifying If pushed
he might actually force Owen
Churchill to divorce Tiffany

Since she loved divorced men so much, she could go marry one herself once she
was single.
She’d soon experience the perks of such a man firsthand.
“No,” Yolande said, shaking her head.
“I can’t keep causing trouble for Grandpa.”
“I’ll go home and let my dad and grandfather handle this.”
Yolande had no intention of covering up her mother’s actions this time.
Not when Ewan had been dragged into it.
He might brush off the humiliation, but she couldn’t.
Expecting Tiffany to apologize was impossible, so her father would have to step in.
