Chapter 1841
[ 517 words ]
Officer Wade gave Quinton a warning look, desperately wanting to tell him to shut up and apologize. But he couldn’t. Thanks to his brother-in-law, Chief Stone, Quinton had terrorized the neighborhood for years.
The officers hated it but couldn’t say a word because Chief Stone was an otherwise decent boss. They could only hope that Quinton had finally kicked a steel plate and that the Chief would handle it rationally.
Unfortunately, Quinton had no idea he was in over his head. When Chief Stone walked in, Quinton shouted, “Silas! You’re finally here! If you were any later, these crazy bitches would have killed me!”
Silas’s face drained of color. “Quinton, watch your mouth!”
He had already been briefed on the identities of the people his brother-in-law had assaulted. One was the fiancée of Mr. Green, the CEO of Vertex International. The girl Quinton had harassed was even worse the niece of Secretary Lewis from the State Department. And the man standing next to him was Caleb Lewis himself!
Silas wondered what kind of astronomical bad luck he had to offend both powerful families in a single night. He wanted to strangle his idiot brother-in-law.
“Silas, you’re not going to take their side, are you?” Quinton wailed, playing his usual card. “I’m the only family you have left on my sister’s side! How can you face her memory if you let them do this to me?”
This emotional manipulation usually worked flawlessly. But not tonight.
Caleb and Dane stared at Silas with icy expressions.
“Chief Stone, is this your brother-in-law?” Caleb asked with a polite smile that screamed danger.
Dane didn’t speak, but his gaze was lethal.
Feeling the crushing pressure in the room, Silas didn’t dare show any favoritism. “Yes, he is my late wife’s only remaining family. But he is
entirely at fault heret Mr. Greine
swnsel.n
Caleb, rest assured, I will not protect him!”
Silas had raised Quinton like a son. Seeing him bruised and bloodied pained him,
but he knew these two men wouldn’t let this slide.
He immediately ordered his officers to pull the security footage from the food stall. Normally, the cameras would have conveniently malfunctioned, but tonight, they
worked perfectly.
The footage showed everything in crisp detail. If Macy pressed charges, Quinton was definitely going to jail.
But jail didn’t scare Quinton. What infuriated him was his brother-in-law forcing him
to apologize to these people-especially to those two pretty boys.
“I got beaten up! Why should I apologize? They should be apologizing to me!” Quinton yelled.
Despite his lingering sympathy, Silas wasn’t about to indulge him this time. He slapped Quinton hard across the face.
“I told you to apologize! You think
you can go around harassing women? Who do you think you are?
You do nothing all day but hang out with thugs Tomorrow I’m sending you down south to work in a factory!”
Silas was genuinely furious, but he was also terrified of retaliation. Neither the Green family nor the Lewis family were people he could afford to anger.
He was smart enough to know that punishing Quinton himself was the only way to save him.
Claire didn’t care about the apology. She just looked at Macy, waiting to see what she wanted to do.
