Chapter 1842
[ 518 words ]
Officer Wade gave Quinton a warning look, desperately wanting to tell him to shut up and apologize. But he couldn’t.
Quinton had terrorized the neighborhood for years, relying on his brother-in-law’s protection. The officers hated it but couldn’t say a word because Silas was an otherwise decent boss.
They could only hope that Quinton had finally kicked a steel plate and that the Chief would handle it rationally.
Unfortunately, Quinton had no idea he was in over his head.
Seeing the Chief arrive, he shouted loudly, “Silas! You’re finally here! If you were any later, these crazy bitches would have killed me!”
Silas’s face drained of color. “Quinton, watch your mouth!”
He had already been briefed on the identities of the people his brother-in-law had fought. One was the fiancée of Mr. Green, the CEO of Vertex International. The girl Quinton had harassed was even worse the niece of Secretary Lewis from the State Department, accompanied by Caleb Lewis himself!
Silas wondered what kind of astronomical bad luck he had to offend both powerful families in a single night. He wanted to strangle his idiot brother-in-law.
“Silas, you’re not going to take their side, are you?” Quinton wailed. “I’m the only family you have left on my sister’s side! How can you face her memory if you let them do this to me?”
This emotional manipulation usually worked flawlessly. But not tonight.
Caleb and Dane stared at Silas with icy expressions.
“Chief Stone, is this your brother-in-law?” Caleb asked with a polite smile that screamed danger.
Dane didn’t speak, but his gaze was lethal.
Feeling the crushing pressure in the room, Silas didn’t dare show any favoritism. “Yes, he is my late wife’s only remaining family. But he is entirely at fault here! Mr Green, Caleb, rest assured, I will not protect him!”

Silas had raised Quinton like a son. Seeing him bruised and bloodied pained him,
but he knew these two men wouldn’t let this slide.
He immediately ordered his officers to pull the security footage from the food stall. Normally, the cameras would have conveniently malfunctioned but tonight, they worked perfectly.
The footage showed everything in crisp detail. If Macy pressed charges, Quinton was definitely going to jail.
But jail didn’t scare Quinton. What infuriated him was his brother-in-law forcing him to apologize to these people-especially to those two pretty boys. Why should he apologize?
“I got beaten up! Why should I apologize? They should be apologizing to me!” Quinton yelled.
Despite his lingering sympathy, Silas wasn’t about to indulge him this time. He slapped Quinton hard across the face. “I told you to apologize!”
“You think you can go around harassing women? Who do you think you are? You do nothing all day but hang out with thugs. Tomorrow, I’m sending you down south to work in a factory!”
Silas was genuinely furious, but he
was also terrified of retaliation.
Neither the Green family nor the Lewis family were people he could
afford to anger Silas was smart enough to know that punishing Quinton himself was the only way to save him.
Claire and her friends had already beaten the guy up, so they weren’t overly invested in the outcome. Claire didn’t care; she simply deferred to Macy.
