Chapter 1876
[ 595 words ]
Owen was speechless. “I swear, you people are demons.”
“You’re actually perfectly suited for community outreach work,” Norris complimented his brother.
The mere thought of those older women made Owen’s scalp tingle. “No, no, I’m definitely not suited for it.”
He was genuinely terrified that Norris might pull some strings and get him a job in community service.
For Owen, that would be absolute torture.
Working in the community would practically kill him.
Even though he had a charming face, he absolutely did not want to spend his days dealing with gossiping ladies.
Being constantly hounded about whether he wanted a wife was terrifying.
“Let’s go. This hot pot place is owned by Xavier Vance.”
After about ten minutes of driving, they arrived at Xavier’s restaurant.
It was an ancient-style hot pot restaurant. The staff were all dressed in traditional
ancient clothing, giving the place a very lively atmosphere.
The moment Xavier saw them, he walked right over.
“Norris, Claire!”
Xavier greeted the two of them, then playfully punched Owen in the shoulder.
Owen rubbed his shoulder. “Man, were you just looking for an excuse to hit me?” Xavier flashed him a grin. “What do you think?”
“Owen, Norris, Claire.” Another person walked out from the main dining area. Surprisingly, it was Serena Wade.
Claire actually liked Serena a lot. “Serena, you’re here too.”
“I heard you were just discharged from the hospital, so I got you a little gift.”
Serena handed the bag she was holding over to Claire.
“Thank you, Serena,” Claire said as she took it.
“It’s a good luck charm I bought while traveling.”
Serena knew being superstitious was silly, but didn’t everyone appreciate a little peace of mind?
Claire took it out and immediately put it on her wrist. “It’s beautiful.”
She shook her wrist lightly, and the three men readily offered their compliments.
“It really is beautiful. Claire has slender, luminous wrists; they complement the charm perfectly.”
Xavier even pretended to be jealous. “Even I your fiancé, didn’t get a good
luck charm. It’s obvious R
plays favorites with you.”
Serena shot him a glare. “If you want one, you can just ask your precious Jocelyn to go pray for one.”
“I’m sure she’d be more than happy to do it.”
Xavier grimaced. “I’ve already told you I don’t like her anymore and that I’ve cut ties with her. The past was all just a misunderstanding contenť .net>
“This is all Owen’s fault. If I hadn’t been competing with him, I probably wouldn’t have…”
Wouldn’t have what?
Wouldn’t have had a crush on Jocelyn Thorne for so long?
Didn’t that mean she had wasted all those years tangled up with Xavier for nothing?
Serena rolled her eyes. She didn’t believe for a second that Xavier had never truly fallen for Jocelyn.
The two of them had basically
grown up together. She knew Xavier
incredibly well, and she knew he had
zero immunity against innocent, damsel-in-distress types like Jocelyn
Xavier looked guilty under Serena’s stare.
Owen stood to the side, thoroughly enjoying the show.
Xavier had always resisted being with Serena, but his family had long ago paved the
future path for their underachieving son.
Since he was useless, they would just find a highly capable daughter-in-law.
Serena was a powerhouse in the business world.
She was an absolute boss.
Xavier’s parents adored her. As for whether their son liked her?
His parents couldn’t care less!
It was far better than him liking some girl who was clearly just using him to climb the social ladder.
Only an idiot like Xavier could get strung along by someone like that for so many years.
His parents, and even Serena, his fiancée, were just sitting back watching the drama unfold.
“Don’t laugh at me. Do you really think you’re off the hook?”
“Seraphina Thorne is back.”
“Are you planning to rekindle your old romance with her?”
