Chapter 1891
“Then what exactly do you want me to say?”
Xavier’s face twisted with pure exasperation. “Am I supposed to admit to something I never did?”
“Jocelyn, I was never anything but good to you. How could you frame me like this?”
“If I ever touched you, I’d lose my manhood for life, okay!”
Claire: *…Well, that’s certainly one way to clear your name!*
Owen: *…Only you would go that far, buddy!*
Serena: *… There’s really no need to curse yourself that maliciously.*
The two police officers: *Okay, this guy is definitely being framed!*
The security guard: *Damn, respect!*
And Reid?
He was completely out of the loop and just trying to keep up.
Xavier realized his declaration had stunned the entire room into silence, and he felt a surge of smug satisfaction.
The way he looked at Jocelyn now was filled with an unprecedented, profound disappointment.
“I completely misjudged you. I never realized you were this kind of person.”
“Blame my own terrible judgment. I won’t hold the past against you, but if you ever try to frame someone like this again, don’t expect me to hold back.”
“During those years you were abroad, every single cent I transferred to you is documented.”
“I was willing to fund your education because I actually thought you were a decent girl.”
“But looking at you now, you clearly don’t need my money to live in luxury.”
Everyone else instinctively glanced at Xavier.
They were all burning with curiosity over exactly how much cash he had dumped on her.
Jocelyn fell silent for a moment, but then she pulled out her trump card.
“Xavier, did you forget? Last month, I asked you out, and we drank heavily. The next morning…”
Xavier’s face turned ashen. “Impossible. Didn’t you swear nothing happened between us?”
A faint, triumphant smile flickered in Jocelyn’s eyes. “I lied. And you actually believed it?”
Which part was the lie?
Xavier was completely losing his grip on reality.
He instinctively looked toward Serena.
He didn’t even know why he was looking at her.
enet
He despised the chains of their arranged engagement, yet in a moment of absolute crisis, mis fir instinct was to explain hime
her.
Or maybe, he was subconsciously begging for her help.
In that fleeting second, Xavier finally realized just how deeply he had relied on Serena since childhood.
She was only a few months older than him, but she had always protected him like an older sister.
His teenage rebellion had made him resent the dynamic.
That was why he had been so drawn to Jocelyn, who played the helpless, clinging bird so perfectly.
But now that Jocelyn’s mask had been ripped off, he realized she didn’t even hold a candle to Serena.
At least Serena played all her ruthless games out in the open.
Receiving Xavier’s desperate SOS, Serena fought the overwhelming urge to roll her eyes.
She was his fiancée. Was it now her job to clean up his potential illegitimate children too?
“Did you actually get drunk and sleep with her?” Serena asked, completely deadpan.
But
of that night at all. “I don’t think so. 1
was blackout drunk was practically a noodle, how could I possibly…”
He sounded like a man speaking from deep, tragic experience—if you ignored the
bright red flush spreading across the tips of his ears.
Claire watched the exchange, highly amused.
This Xavier guy paraded around like a seasoned playboy, yet he was actually
blushing over something like this.
Was it because he was in front of Serena?
Serena was utterly exhausted by the display. She turned her cold gaze onto Jocelyn. “I trust this idiot.”
“If he actually touched you, he would take full responsibility.”
“You can give birth to the baby. We will cover every single cent of your living and medical expenses throughout the pregnancy.”
“If it turns out to be Xavier’s blood, will personally guarantee the child is brought back to the Vance family to be raised, and cut you a massive check to walk away.”
“But if it’s not his, we will sue you into oblivion for criminal fraud.”
“Does that sound like a fair deal to you?”
Serena spoke with casual indifference, yet every word was a lethal, calculated strike to the throat.
Jocelyn’s face drained of all color.
She finally understood. From the very beginning, she never stood a chance against these people.
