Chapter 1892
These people had been raised in the ruthless cutthroat environment of the corporate world.
Petty schemes and manipulative traps were completely transparent to them.
Take Serena for example. Jocelyn assumed that because Serena was Xavier’s fiancée, she would be deeply possessive and jealous.
She thought she could easily shatter their relationship by simply weaponizing her pregnancy.
A normal woman would have heard her vague, suggestive words, immediately suspected her man, and started tearing their relationship apart from the inside.
But not Serena.
Not only did she stand firmly by Xavier’s side and take charge of the crisis, but she immediately formulated a plan to throw Jocelyn behind bars.
This was a woman who lacked neither intellect nor ruthlessness, and she certainly wasn’t blinded by petty romance.
All of Jocelyn’s calculating little tricks shattered instantly against Serena’s ironclad logic.
Even Claire couldn’t help but marvel internally. *Serena is so incredibly badass!*
*I’m totally obsessed with her!*
Was a woman like this really going to be wasted on a guy like Xavier?
Claire genuinely felt sorry for Serena.
Serena, however, didn’t see it that way.
Her ambitions had nothing in common with the average girl’s.
She was destined to take the reins of two massive corporate empires. Why would she waste time agonizing over trivial romantic drama?
If Xavier truly couldn’t let Jocelyn go, Serena would have happily stepped aside and let them be together.
Provided, of course, that Jocelyn was perfectly content remaining a hidden mistress in the shadows.
Unfortunately, Serena could easily tell that Jocelyn lacked the competence to match her massive, unchecked ambition.
“Does Ms. Thorne object to the proposal?”
Seeing that Jocelyn had been shocked into silence, Serena aggressively pressed her. “You should really give my offer some serious thought.”
“Or, perhaps, you’re already panicking.”
“You know perfectly well that child has absolutely nothing to do with Xavier, yet you’re still trying to extort us.”
“If you don’t speak up right now, we’ll file the fraud charges immediately.”
Filing a
simp case wasn’t quite that
Jocelyn’s
lying had alreadytet
disgusted the two police
If Serena pushed to file a report right this second, they would likely fast-track the investigation without hesitation.
Jocelyn was trapped in a dead end, rapidly realizing she had dug her own grave.
Terrified of going toe-to-toe with
Serena, she could only look at with deeply wounded eyes.
Xavier
do you really feel the same way?”
She was desperately trying to trigger whatever residual pity he used to harbor for her.
Sadly, her deliberate deception and manipulation had completely snuffed out any warmth he once felt.
Xavier remained dead silent, signaling that Serena had full authority over the situation.
Jocelyn’s eyes filled with tears. “Fine. If that’s how it is, forget it.”
“This baby really has nothing to do with you. I’m going to abort it.”
Her sudden display of devastation actually managed to tug at Xavier’s conscience slightly.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but one sharp glare from Serena had him snapping his jaw shut and retreating like a turtle into its shell.
“You can abort it if you want, but don’t even think about making Xavier your scapegoat.”
Serena’s smile lacked any warmth, her tone laced with a razor-sharp threat.
“I’m sure the police can easily uncover exactly who you’ve been sleeping with.”
“I imagine you know perfectly well who the father of that child really is.”
“Don’t think you can parade that belly around and extort multiple families.”
“We don’t have the time to play your little games.”
Serena laid down the law, and Jocelyn didn’t dare utter a single syllable in protest.
She knew Xavier might still harbor some lingering guilt, but this Serena woman was an absolute monster.
“Exactly. We don’t have the time!” Claire chimed in from right behind Serena.
“Owen, press the charges!” Claire suddenly pivoted to her brother.
Owen nodded. “Jocelyn, I have tolerated you for far too long.”
“Since the police have already proven you deliberately framed me, I’m formally filing charges.”
Owen had zero intention of showing Jocelyn an ounce of mercy.
