Chapter 1726
[ 634 words ]
Yorick enthusiastically waved goodbye, laying on the charm thick.
It was only after Claire disappeared around the corner that he remembered Yolande was still standing right beside him.
He turned to find her staring at him with an intensely weird expression.
“Yolande, what’s with the look?”
“The way you just fawned over my cousin made you look like a servant begging for table scraps.”
“I was just admiring the lack of dignity.”
Yorick’s expression briefly twisted in fury before he forced it back into a smooth mask.
“Yolande, are you jealous? I just thought her advice was genuinely helpful.”
“I was just showing my appreciation. There’s nothing more to it.”
Yolande let out a scoff of pure disbelief. “Jealous? You and I aren’t even together.”
“And secondly, do you honestly think she was trying to be helpful?”
Yorick, of course, knew Claire had been mocking him relentlessly.
But he would rather die than admit that out loud.
“Why wouldn’t it be? She and I don’t even know each other. Why would she randomly insult me?”
Yolande stared at him. *Why wouldn’t she?*
*She was blatantly calling you out for being an arrogant hypocrite.*
“Right. Why would she bother? She barely even knows you exist,” Yolande agreed dryly.
That hit Yorick right in his inflated ego. He fancied himself something of a celebrity in the arts department, and it stung to hear that Claire had never even heard of him.
“Yolande, I actually think we should audition for that show together,” he pressed on, pivoting smoothly.
“You’re gorgeous, you dance flawlessly, and you play instruments. You’d absolutely dominate reality TV.”
Yolande looked at him like he had lost his mind. “You want me to throw away a guaranteed spot in the national dance company to go compete on a trashy idol show?”
That was exactly what Yorick wanted, but he wasn’t stupid enough to say it out loud.
If he couldn’t get into the prestigious company, he sure as hell didn’t want her getting in either.
“No, not throw it away.”
“I just meant you could balance both. Maybe ask for a deferral on your start date to do the show?”
“Make a splash in the entertainment industry first, and you can always go back to the company later.”
“Honestly, Yolande, you’re the kind of person who’s going to succeed no matter where you go.”
“Though I suppose your family
would never let you put yourself out therein ollywood Just pretend I
never said anything.”
“I know how strict wealthy families can be with their daughters.”
“They groom you perfectly, and the
second you come of age, they you off for a business mergery
have my sympathies.
You
“You know how I feel about you. I just hate the idea of you being trapped.”
“Even if you don’t choose me, you shouldn’t have to settle for some loveless arranged marriage.”
“If you built your own empire in the entertainment industry, wouldn’t you finally have the power to make your own choices?”
Yolande was absolutely floored by his unhinged monologue.
She knew he had been laying the charm on thick lately, but he had never been this blatant.
And she had dropped enough hints to make it explicitly clear she wasn’t interested.
She only saw him as a classmate.
Yet here he was, spinning this
delusional narrative where they were tragio star-crossed lovers kept apart only by her family’s
expectations.
The guy was seriously out of his mind.
“Look, I have zero interest in that,” she said flatly.
“And for the record, I don’t have feelings for you. I can’t return whatever it is you
think is going on between us.”
“Yorick, you need to focus on your own career instead of whatever this is.”
“Claire was right about one thing you’ve got a flair for the dramatic. You really belong on a screen.”
“I wish you the best of luck.”
She turned on her heel and started walking away.
Yorick reached out and grabbed her arm. “Wait, Yolande. Are you mad at me?”
“I was just making a suggestion! I didn’t say you had to do it.”
