Chapter 1727

“I get it. A pampered princess like you gets to do whatever she wants.”
“And as for my feelings, I wasn’t asking for anything in return.”
“Just don’t strip me of the right to care about you, okay?”
Yolande stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. “I honestly don’t even know what you’re talking about anymore. I feel sick. I’m going back to my dorm.”
“Find a different partner for practice today.”
Without waiting for a response, she wrenched her arm out of his gross grip and practically bolted out of the building.
“Claire!” Spotting her cousin not too far down the sidewalk, Yolande rushed to catch up.
“Yolande? What are you doing out here? I thought you had class,” Claire asked, turning around in surprise.
She looked her cousin up and down, noticing her flushed cheeks.
Yolande shook her head, letting out a frustrated breath. “It’s nothing. My dance partner is just seriously creeping me out.”
“I can’t stand the thought of practicing with him today. We were never supposed to be partners anyway. Yorick was just a backup for Quentin. Quentin was incredible— amazing guy, brilliant dancer.”
“But right before the competition, he had this freak accident and shattered his leg. The doctors don’t even know if he’ll ever walk properly again.”
“I overheard one of the professors say that even if he does walk, his career in dance is over.”
“Quentin has always been so careful. Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that they barely interacted, I would almost suspect Yorick had something to do with the accident.”
Claire raised a delicate eyebrow. “They might not have interacted, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have a conflict of interest.”
“What do you mean?” Yolande started to ask, before the horrifying realization clicked into place.
“Claire, are you saying Yorick might have deliberately hurt Quentin just to steal his spot in the international competition?”
Claire nodded slowly. “It’s entirely possible. You just said Yorick never would have made the cut if Quentin hadn’t gotten hurt.”
“Doesn’t that make him the primary beneficiary of the accident?”
Yolande felt sick to her stomach. If Yorick really had orchestrated the fall, it was beyond despicable.
He hadn’t just stolen Quentin’s chance at fame; he had permanently destroyed his entire life.
If it was true, ‘bad’ didn’t even begin to cover it. The guy was a total psychopath.
“It honestly terrifies me. Thank god
was the leading dancer or he
probably would have found a ème out too,” Yolande suvered.
She recalled visiting Quentin in the hospital and hearing the surgeon detail the sheer severity of his fractures.
A chill ran straight down her spine.
“Claire, you don’t think he’s planning to target me next, do you? He just tried to push me into doing reality TV. Does he view me as an obstacle to his spot in the national Company?”
Hearing that, Claire completely agreed with the theory.
A ruthless opportunist like Yorick would never let anyone stand in his way to the top.
Yolande had won the golden ticket, leaving him to look like her useless backup dancer. There was no way his fragile ego could handle that.
Claire had immediately sensed the guy was bad news, which was exactly why she
had playfully egged him on about Hollywood.
If he was truly that ruthless and shameless, he actually might make it far in that toxic industry.
“He knows you belong to The Churchill Family, yet he’s still
pushing you to degrade yours
reality television He’s either an idiot, erhe’s purely malicious.”
“You need to keep your guard up around him, Yolande. Guys like that are capable of anything.”
Claire knew her cousin had lived a relatively sheltered life and was far too trusting, making her an easy target for manipulation.
“I will,” Yolande promised, distracted. She was currently wrestling with whether she should share these dark suspicions with Quentin.
“Are you debating whether to tell Quentin?” Claire asked, reading her mind effortlessly.
She had zeroed in on the exact source of Yolande’s anxiety.
“Yeah. I just don’t know if he’ll believe me.”
