Chapter 3:

Ian appeared to be in shock. Within moments, he let go of my hand. A roar of laughter erupted from everyone. He glared at the crowd, signaling for them to quiet down, and they obeyed his command.

“I didn’t mean to get in your way. But p>

His gaze returned to me, and I paused. I was unable to move or speak, completely captivated by his dark eyes.

“What exactly are you doing here?” he asked, his voice edged with irritation.

His question astonished me. Before I could respond, another voice rang out.

“I invited her. She’s my friend p>

I turned around and noticed Luke. I felt a wave of relief as he came to my rescue. Abigail was by his side. He walked up to me and took my hand.

“Are you okay?” Luke asked.

Without saying a word, I simply nodded.

“When did you start making friends with nerds?” Ian asked, his tone dismissive.

I felt hurt by his words. I lowered my head, trying to hide my emotions behind my glasses.

“Don’t talk about her like that, Ian. She’s done nothing to you. Stop picking on her for no reason,” Luke said, his voice firm.

Ian frowned upon hearing Luke’s response.

“Excuse me? Did you just say I’m picking on her? Seriously? Do I have nothing else to do in my life p>

“Ian, let it go. Let’s just drink,” his best friend, Ronald Solace, suggested.

“Yeah, it’s better if we continue the party. I’m not interested in arguing,” Luke added with a sigh, glancing at Ian.

Ian gave a slight nod before turning his attention back to me. My glasses allowed me to catch a glimpse of him, and as soon as our eyes met, I quickly looked away.

He rolled his eyes and turned to rejoin his friends.

Luke turned to me and said, “I’m so sorry p>

I raised my head to look at him. “For what p>

“You almost got lost at the party. I should have welcomed you outside,” Luke said.

“No, it’s okay,” I replied.

“You came to my party and received a lot of attention, which you didn’t want. That’s my fault p>

I glanced around at the other people, who were still looking at me with judgmental eyes.

I told Luke not to worry about me. He then introduced me and Abigail to some of his friends.

His friends were decent, just like him. They were kind people who didn’t judge me based on my looks or appearance.

Abigail wanted to dance while Luke chatted with his friends, so I went to sit on a couch nearby. Abigail tried to persuade me to join her, but I’d had enough for the day. I didn’t want any more attention. I simply didn’t feel like it, so I declined.

My eyes wandered around the pool area. They landed on Ian once again. I didn’t know why I was always drawn to this bad boy.

What was this feeling about?

I wasn’t the kind of girl who would get involved with someone like him. I wasn’t like the other girls he spent his nights with. Those girls eagerly wanted to be with him, as if being in his bed would somehow earn them a reputation.

I noticed he was looking at a girl while sipping his drink. My focus shifted to the girl. My eyes nearly popped out when I saw her strip off her dress and reveal a white bikini, exposing her nearly naked body to seduce Ian.

Everyone started cheering for her. She winked at Ian and dove into the pool. A few minutes later, other girls joined her. Ian smirked at the girl. His gaze remained fixed on her, as though she were his prey for the night.

For some unknown reason, my heart ached.
