Chapter 9
Chapter 9:
Ava’s POV
Ian rejected me as his mate. How could he do that? It was a bond created by the moon goddess. How could he reject our fate?
He didn’t even give me the chance to speak before he rejected me. My eyes widened in shock. He left the rooftop, leaving me alone to face his brutal decision.
He slammed the door behind him so loudly that I flinched and snapped back to my senses.
My knees started to shake. I collapsed to the ground. The pain in my heart was more intense than any physical pain I had ever felt.
What had fate given me? A mate who disliked me? He didn’t even want to see my face. He was disgusted just by the thought of me as his mate. He didn’t take the time to think about our bond and rejected me without a second thought.
“Why? Why did this happen to me? Why don’t I deserve to be happy?†I cried out loud.
My wolf started howling inside. She whimpered in sorrow. I thought about going back home, so I stood up slowly, using the wall for support.
I wanted to escape the pain of being heartbroken.
However, more pain was waiting for me.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I placed my right palm over it. “Aahhh p>
I screamed as the pain spread throughout my body, as if my bones were breaking.
My wolf groaned in agony.
The pain I was experiencing was something I never imagined could exist. My whole body hurt as if I were in hell.
When I looked at my hands, I saw red veins running across them. Anguish overwhelmed me, and I felt like I was dying. I sobbed as I rubbed my veins.
My wolf howled loudly, then fell silent.
“What’s happening to you?†I asked my wolf, but she didn’t respond. I could feel my entire body going numb with each passing second.

I tried to take deep breaths, but I failed. Darkness seemed to surround me.
My knees trembled and I fell to the ground once again. Suddenly, everything went black around me, and I slipped into darkness.
When I opened my eyes, I saw an unfamiliar ceiling. But I didn’t try to figure out where I was.
I kept staring at the ceiling as tears rolled down the corners of my eyes.
Everything that happened before I fainted came back to me, one painful memory at a time. I was completely devastated by the rejection. My wolf had not responded to me since the moment I woke up. I didn’t know if she was alright or not.
I felt like I was lying lifeless on a bed. The rejection made me feel as if I were dying.
What could be worse for a werewolf than being rejected by their own mate?
If it had been someone else, I could at least try to understand it. But it was the one person I had always loved. I had tried to stop my heart from falling for him, but it just kept beating faster every time he was near me.
He hadn’t even taken the time to consider what fate had decided for him.
I should have understood that the bad boy Alpha, Ian Dawson—the boy every girl dreamed of—could not be my mate or lover. I didn’t fit in with his preferences or his lifestyle. He had felt embarrassed when he discovered I was his mate.
Should I laugh at myself?
“Ava p>
I heard a voice calling my name several times, but I couldn’t react.
My mind was still stuck in the pain of rejection.
“Ava, are you listening to me?†Another voice called.
I closed my eyes, letting my tears flow freely.
A hand gently wiped my tears and patted my shoulder.
“Ava? Please say something p>
I opened my eyes and saw two girls looking down at me.
Abigail and Debra looked worried. They sat on either side of the bed.
I looked around and realized I was in a hospital bed. I was in our university’s infirmary. My gaze moved to the window—it was dark outside.
I tried to sit up, but I hissed in pain as it shot through my body.
“Don’t move too much,†Abigail said, placing the pillow behind me so I could lean against it.
I looked at them and asked,
“How did I get here p>
Debra held my hand. It was then that I realized I had an IV drip.
“We were looking for you, but you were nowhere to be found. We searched every corner, and Luke discovered you unconscious on the rooftop. He carried you to our infirmary and informed us p>
