“Stephen,†Ronald replied.
“Stephen?†Ava mumbled, her heart foolishly hoping for someone else.
“Yeah. He found you unconscious in the storeroom and carried you here p>
Ava felt a sharp pang in her heart. She couldn’t believe Ian hated her so much that he didn’t even care if she died there.
She nodded at Ronald and turned to leave.
“Ava p>
She turned back to face him.
“Yes p>
“I know what Ian did really hurt you. All I can say is that he’s a fool. He waited for his mate for years, yet he p>
“I don’t want to hear about him. Thank you for being here when I was unconscious p>
Ava walked out of the room and left the infirmary.
Ian’s actions in the storeroom flashed through her mind. She couldn’t forget how he had treated her.
Trying to push those thoughts aside, she headed toward the main gate of the university.
Outside, she spotted Stephen. He noticed her and walked toward her.
“Hey, how are you now p>
“I heard you helped me get to the infirmary. Thanks a lot, Stephen. I’m really grateful to you p>
Stephen looked surprised by her words but nodded. “That’s nothing. How are you feeling now p>
“Just fine p>
“That’s good. I’ve got something for you p>

Stephen pulled a phone out of his pocket and handed it to her.
It was her phone. She took it, saying, “Thanks a lot p>
“It’s the least I could do. Take care of yourself p>
After thanking Stephen, she left the main gate and began walking to the bus stop.
Her mind wandered to her wolf. She couldn’t believe how much pain she had endured before passing out. Why was she going through this?
“What happened to you? Why can’t you respond to me?†she asked her wolf, who had caged herself after bearing so much pain.
She arrived at the bus stop and sat down on a bench to wait for her bus. Many cars passed by, but she ignored the road, focusing instead on her phone. Unlocking it, she saw a flood of messages.
She noticed a message she hadn’t sent—one that Ian had written:
“Mom called, so I am going home. See you tomorrow p>
She remembered what Ian had said to her in the storeroom. He told her he had texted her friend. Ava regretted going to the basketball game today. None of this would have happened if she had stayed away.
He had made fun of her, calling her a weak girl. Now, after today, he would have even more reason to call her vulnerable.
A screeching sound caught her attention. She looked up to see a car pulling up beside her. Luke got out.
