Chapter 135
Chapter 135:
“I’m aware of my responsibility. You don’t need to remind me,†Stephen replied.
“That’s good,†Luke answered.
Ava glanced down at Luke’s hand holding hers and softly said,
“I don’t need anyone’s protection. I was fine before, too. It’s just that I never wanted this kind of attention, and now I seem to be getting it all the time.†After saying this, she glanced at Ian, who was staring at her.
As if issuing a warning, he said,
“The truth is, anyone whose name gets linked to Ian Dawson will attract attention from all sides. Whether it’s positive or negative depends on their own actions p>
Ava stood up from the couch, and Luke looked up at her.
“Let’s go upstairs p>
He nodded and got up as well. Although he wanted to respond to Ian, he was more concerned about Ava’s comfort around him.
As they made their way to the staircase, Luke asked,
“So, will you have to see him often if he comes here p>
Ava simply shrugged.
“I don’t care. He’s invisible to me p>
Ava led Luke to the library on the upper floor. Once there, they settled onto the couches after Luke had picked out some books.
“Wow. Tales from the Past of Mystic Falls. You have this book!†Luke said, genuinely impressed.
She grinned.
“Yeah, Dad organized all the books for me p>
Luke turned to her and asked,
“Ava, how is your life here? Is everyone treating you well p>
Ava thought about the love and support she received from Gamma Harper and Stephen.
“I’m really happy, Luke. I feel like I’m finally living my life to the fullest. It’s just my past that keeps haunting me p>
As she said this, Ava glanced downstairs and noticed Ian looking up at them. One of his friends was smoking, the others chatting, but Ian’s gaze was fixed solely on her.
Ava quickly looked away and let out a deep breath.
“I’m completely clueless about what’s going on in my life, Luke. I’m just p>
Luke interrupted her.
“There’s something I wanted to tell you, Ava. That’s why I wanted to take you somewhere private. But it doesn’t matter anymore—the place isn’t important p>
Ava felt a wave of nervousness, already suspecting what he was about to say. She bit her bottom lip and lowered her gaze as she listened.
Suddenly, she stood up.
“I’m going to ask the maids to prepare some coffee for us p>
Luke was momentarily dumbfounded, but quickly regained his composure when he noticed her cheeks had turned red. A grin appeared on his face as he murmured,
“Yeah, sure p>
