Chapter 55:

The phone continued to ring, but Ava was too lazy to get up and answer it.

“Come on, Ava. You need to do this,” she muttered to herself, finally dragging herself off the couch. She walked over to the table, looked at her phone screen, and saw that it was a group call.

She answered the call and immediately connected with the other three members of the group.

“Hello, guys,” Ava said.

“Stephen called us to invite us to his party,” Abigail replied, her voice tinged with urgency.

“Oh, thank God he did. Otherwise, I would have had to call you all to come with me,” Ava answered. “He told us you were the first person he invited. Is there a specific reason for that?” Luke asked.

“Yeah, we were talking about our parents, so he asked me to come,” Ava replied.

“Wait a minute, guys. Let me ask her something first. What’s the theme of the party?” Debra asked.

Ava was confused. “Theme? I don’t know. He didn’t tell me about it p>

“I asked him when he contacted me. He said the theme is ‘Revolution,’” Abigail added.

“Wow. That sounds nice. But I was talking about the dress theme, by the way,” Debra chimed in.

They all chuckled at her remark.

“Just wear whatever you like, Deb. You look good in anything,” Ava said with a smile.

“You girls can talk. I’m hanging up. See you all at the party,” Luke said to the group.

Being the only boy in their circle sometimes made him feel awkward, but they always gave him space to spend time with his other friends whenever he needed a break.

“Should I come pick you up then?” Abigail asked, but she was interrupted when Ava’s phone rang again.

“Stephen’s calling me,” Ava told them.

“Answer it. He’s going to be your brother,” Debra teased, laughing.

Ava ended the previous call and answered Stephen’s.

“Hello?” she said.

“Where are you?” Stephen asked, his voice sounding curious.

Ava was caught off guard. “Well, I’m at home. Why p>

“What do you mean, why? Did you forget about my party p>

“No, I was just talking about it with my friends. They said you invited them too p>

“Yeah p>

“That’s great. My friend Abigail said she’d pick me up. So when does the party start p>

Just then, Ava heard a knock on the door. She turned toward it.

“I’m at your doorstep. No need to go with Abigail. I’m here to pick you up p>

Ava opened the door quickly. “How did you find out where I live?” she asked, surprised.

“Come on. Do you really think I don’t know where my soon-to-be mother is staying p>

“You have a point,” Ava said, nodding her head.
