Chapter 650
Elgin:
After that, Elara didn’t complain even once.
We’d scared her just enough to make sure she stayed in line.
Although I didn’t like it, I could tell my mother enjoyed it.
The sad part was that she would have killed for Hailey and Hannah.
But when it came to Elara, she was never my mother’s favorite.
The reason was Madeline.
My mother didn’t see Elara as my daughter. She only saw her as Madeline’s daughter.
In a way, it made sense. Madeline had hurt her son more times than I could count.
Whenever I craved love, Madeline gave me the middle finger.
So I understood why my mother never liked her.
The moment I stepped into the house, I was met by Silver.
She stood in my way with her arms crossed, her eyes narrowed at Elara, who was clinging to me as if she feared the monster would come back and take her too.
“Not right now,” I told Silver, silently asking her not to say anything in front of Elara. I’d managed to calm Elara down only after a great deal of thought and planning. “No. Why is she here?” Silver demanded.
However, she didn’t understand. She moved in front of me again, spreading her arms to block my path.
“You know why she’s here,” I replied, giving her a stern look so I wouldn’t have to explain everything again.
“No, I really don’t know why she’s here. She has no business coming back here. This isn’t her home.”
Well, Silver being Silver, she immediately started arguing with me.
That was what I disliked about her and what she failed to understand. She challenged every decision I made.
“Enough!” I finally snapped at her, and I watched Silver’s body jerk.
Her father immediately rushed out of the living room, making it clear that his daughter wasn’t alone.
“Did you just yell at my daughter?” he demanded.
I dismissed him with a wave of my hand.
“Silver, either you’re on my side right now, or I’ll take your refusal to listen to me as a
sign that this relationship is over,” I warned.
I caught her father scoffing.
“You still think there’s anything left between you two?”
As soon as he said that, Silver quickly motioned for him to stop.
The shock on her father’s face was impossible to miss.
It was about time he realized that his daughter wasn’t going to leave me for him.
“But I’m not going to take care of her,” Silver said stubbornly, referring to Elara.
Her father immediately nodded in approval, eager to support his daughter.
I gave Silver a small nod, realizing she was truly testing my patience.
If she kept acting this way, I’d have to take things a step further and do something she definitely wouldn’t like.
For now, though, I only wanted to give her a glimpse of what that would look like. “It’s okay,” I told her.
Before she could think she’d won, I added,
“Rosetta will do it. She listens to me and follows my requests without argument.”
The way I openly placed my trust in Rosetta was already a clear comparison between the two of them.
And so far, Rosetta was winning.
Silver immediately looked like she wanted to kick herself for all the crap she’d just talked.
“You don’t need to go to her for everything,” she complained, but I was already done with the conversation.
I’d made up my mind. I was going to ask Rosetta for help.
I held up a hand and shook my head, warning her that I didn’t want to hear another word.
Then I headed off, with my mother following close behind.
“Wait, does that mean Rosetta is coming to live here?” my mother asked, confusion evident in her voice.
I knew her attitude had shifted ever
since she found out that Silver’s father was going to become a- council leader and that my marrying Rosetta might hurt her own chances of becoming one.
“I’ll have to speak with Rosetta and see what she plans to do. But if the child is staying with her,
She have to stay here,
either.

Even though I knew it would create a lot of tension between Silver and me.
The truth was, I wasn’t planning to keep Elara here either.
I had only wanted Silver to help so I could get what I’d wanted from Madeline.
I wanted Madeline to hear, after she was caught, that her daughter was with me.
I wanted her to come begging for Elara’s return and present herself before me.
And then I would reject her.
That was the satisfaction I wanted. But Silver never took my side.
So I packed a bag and prepared to stay with Rosetta for a while.
I was sure she wouldn’t leave her pack, but she would take care of Elara if I asked
her to.
“Think about it for a moment. The
council meeting is going to be called
soon, and I want to be a part of it
my mother pleaded holding onto my
arm.

“You’ll attend the meeting, and you’ll become a council leader. So don’t worry,
okay?” I reassured her.
I didn’t want my mother to feel defeated just because I was pursuing Rosetta.
My mother looked exhausted as I picked Elara up again and left the mansion to take her to Rosetta.
