Chapter 671
Elgin:
After Silver left, I sat for a long time, thinking about what steps I should take next.
At the very least, Kaylee had made one thing clear.
I needed to divorce Silver in public, where everyone could see it, so they would understand the consequences of being involved with Alpha Elgin.
After rejection, divorce papers were not important but I would still demand it.
And I was genuinely considering her advice.
If I was being honest, Kaylee was better than Silver in many ways.
But she was an infertile woman.
Also, her psychotic husband was probably still wandering somewhere in the forests.
“I hope I didn’t bother you,” Kaylee said as she knocked on the open door.
I quickly looked away to hide my tears, then gestured for her to come inside.
I was sitting by the window, staring out at the road, feeling nothing but emptiness settle in my heart.
She walked in, sat down, and placed a plate of food in front of me.
“You cooked this?” I asked in confusion.
She nodded, giving me a cheeky grin.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to walk into your kitchen and immediately start cooking, but I was hungry too,” she said, smiling softly.
“No, it’s fine. You did it for me,” I said, looking at the steak she had prepared.
“You need protein.”
She smiled as I took a bite and closed my eyes.
She really was a great cook.
Silver never cooked.
Actually, I couldn’t remember ever having a home-cooked meal.
A perfect Luna was supposed to cook and serve her mate.
“This is delicious,” I complimented.
Kaylee squeezed her shoulders and gave me a dramatic pout.
“Anyway, I think you should speak with Elara. You need to get her to tell the council and give a video statement saying that she wants her daddy to accept her and all that. You need to nullify the agreement you made with Silver and present it in a way that shows she was forcing you into it by putting Hailey and Hannah’s lives in danger.”
As Kaylee explained what I should say, I nodded.
Previously, I would never have used my daughters in any kind of scheme.
But these children were not my daughters.
To be honest, I felt practically nothing for them.
I didn’t give a fuck how I treated them or what happened to them.
In that sense, she was right.
“You say, Silver used to say that if you kept Elara with you, she would harm Hailey and Hannah. Also, point
Hailey
out that at the time, you didn’t know Madeline was a monster, an You didn’t think it was right to take daughter away from her mother.”
Once again, Kaylee began explaining things, proving that she possessed an
intelligence that could be put to very good use.
As if she wanted to say something, she gently lowered her voice and reached for my hand.
The moment she took my hand, I was both surprised and on alert.
“I know it’s not right for a woman to do this, but-Elgin, I’m proposing to you.”
The moment those words left her mouth, I felt as though my soul had left my body.
I immediately pulled my hand away from hers, but I didn’t reject her right away.
“You can’t. Graham would never allow it,” I said and she shrugged.
“He’s a wanted criminal right now. Nobody’s ready to give a damn. Besides your mother is a council leader. I think she can really make things happen. After all, Silver has ruined her father’s reputation.”
She leaned back comfortably in her chair, crossing one leg over the other.
“And a little birdie told me that the council is afraid. If the daughter is this vindictive and clever, imagine how much worse the father must be.”
She spoke calmly and confidently.
“Plus, I have something else for you.”
Watching her, I couldn’t help thinking that Graham had to be an idiot to ever let her
go.
A mind like hers should have been put to use.
“Are there any more surprises I need to know about? You’re really intelligent,” I joked.
She placed a hand over her mouth and laughed before nodding.
“You were worried about how Silver’s rejection, and later her divorce, would affect
the way people looked at you. Especially her father,” she began.
It seemed as though she had prepared an entire presentation over the last few hours.
“Yeah. I mean, he is one of the council leaders. There will always be conflict between her father and my mother now,” I commented.
“If all of this had happened earlier, people wouldn’t have had so many good things to
say about Lord John,” she commented.
“But how much can her betrayal of me really affect Lord John’s position?” I asked.
The smile on Kaylee’s lips told me I was wrong.
“Well, what if I told you that the
entire chaos that began in Ron’s Pack was initiated by Silver herself? And that her people were the ones who stole Ron’s Luna’s body and also kidnapped Madeline?”
Every word that came out of Kaylee’s mouth made my heart beat faster.
I stared at her in astonishment while she smiled softly.
Then she pulled out an envelope.
Inside were photographs of Silver paying a man with a black mustache.
And at that moment, I already knew what needed to be done.
