Chapter 663
Madeline:
I had walked out of the cabin and sat by the road, watching the livestream with a
smile on my lips.
If only Byron were awake.
If only Baxter were sitting beside me.
If only I had all three of my children in my lap.
We would have enjoyed this skit so much.
I watched the entire thing before opening the comment section, and somehow, it was even better.
The comments did not disappoint.
Everyone was laughing at Elgin, calling him clueless.
Many people even brought up Elara and the fact that he had never truly accepted
her.
All the while, he had been raising someone else’s children.
I lowered my head and put my phone down, taking a deep breath.
A moment later, the screen lit up again.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Well, it worked,” Mathew said and I smiled.
“Thank you,” I replied. “Thank you for the help.”
I was genuinely grateful.
The people I had never expected to become my friends were the ones who had surprised me the most.
Mathew had supported me, and this entire skit would never have been possible without him.
Still, there was one question I wanted to ask.
“How did you know Hailey and Hannah definitely weren’t Elgin’s daughters?”
For a moment, there was silence on the other end.
“Let’s just say I knew years ago that when she claimed Elgin was the father, she was lying.”
His answer only deepened my confusion.
The silence that followed made it clear he didn’t want to discuss it further.
I could tell he was holding something back.
So I respected his boundaries and let the matter go.
The irony wasn’t lost on me.
Years ago, both of us had been pregnant at the same time, and he had chosen her because he believed having children with an Alpha’s daughter would benefit him more.
Even though he later claimed she had been forced upon him, the decision had been entirely his.
Time and time again, he had chosen Hailey and Hannah over Elara.
I did feel sorry for the two little girls.
They shouldn’t have been on that stage watching everything unfold.
I had told Mary Jane that.
Mathew had even paid her and instructed her to take the children away once the chaos started.
But it had been inevitable.
There were too many eyes on Elgin.
She never would have been allowed anywhere near the girls once everything began.
“Anyway, let me know if you need anything, okay?” Mathew said before hanging up.
I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.
Then I picked up my basket and started gathering herbs.
I had been treating Byron, and he was doing much better now, though
stiff bedridden. Though
he was rever
kept coming and going.
At least he was awake.
At least he was alive.
The most shocking thing, however, was that the monster was still sitting in the tree.
To the point that I no longer felt scared of it.
I would leave the house, glare at it, and walk away.
Then I would come back later and
find the monster asleep, its head
its neck
tucked beneath its wing
twisted around and its back feathers

It looked so comfortable.
“What?” I grunted, finally stopping beneath the tree.
“Do you know what I just did?”
I yelled at the monster.
Slowly, it ruffled its feathers and tilted its head, its long beak pointing toward me.
“I just got my revenge, but I’m only getting started,” I hissed.
The monster continued staring at me.
“And one day, I’ll kill you too.”
My voice shook.
“Because you fucking killed my daughter. And then my husband.”
My voice broke completely as I continued yelling.
“Madeline, what are you doing?”
Ron must have heard me because he rushed outside and grabbed my arm, trying to
pull me away from the monster.
“No! Let me talk to it!”
I struggled against his grip.
“It needs to leave. It can’t just sit
here pretending it’s protecting.uset
when it’s the reason fm this broken today!”
I screamed and snatched a stone from the ground.
“Madeline, no!” Ron shouted.
But I threw it anyway.
The stone struck the monster’s beak.
A small whimper escaped it.
My entire body froze.
The anger vanished in an instant.
“Are you hurt?”
The words slipped out before I could stop them.
I didn’t know why I asked.
Tears filled my eyes as I watched the monster rub its beak against its feathers.
“Come on, Madeline. Let’s go inside.”
Ron grabbed my arm and finally managed to lead me away from the tree.
When we entered the cabin, I was surprised to see Byron sitting on the couch.
“Oh my God, you’re up!”
A wide smile spread across my face.
Byron flashed me a cocky grin. It was such great news.
Seems like our bad days are finally over.
Or at least, it is the beginning of something new.
