I tightened my grip around the silver dagger as Sawyer turned toward me.

His cold eyes locked onto mine before he charged.

I waited until the last second before stepping aside.

His claw sliced through the air where I had been standing only a heartbeat earlier.

I drove the dagger into his side.

He roared in pain, stumbling a step forward before swinging his arm at me again.

I ducked beneath the attack and slashed across his forearm.

Smoke rose from the wound as the silver and iron burned through his skin.

The sprinklers continued pouring over him.

They were the very thing weakening him more and more.

Enraged, Sawyer lunged again, throwing his full weight at me.

I planted my foot and shifted to the side.

He crashed into the stage railing.

He howled and lashed out blindly.

One claw caught my sleeve, tearing the fabric, but I stayed on my feet.

However, where it had torn through my sleeve, the water reached my exposed skin.

A burning sensation spread through me.

He came at me again.

At the last second, I drove the dagger deep into his stomach.

He let out a deafening howl.

His massive frame immediately began to shrink.

He collapsed onto the stage, his eyes still fixed on me.

I could tell sleep was overtaking him.

His enormous body slumped to one side.

Slowly, his eyes closed.

The transformation reversed until he was back in his human form, wearing nothing

but a pair of shorts.

The sprinklers finally shut off.

They had run dry.

For a brief moment, the entire theater fell silent.

“Guards!” I called, never taking my eyes off Sawyer. “Arrest him.”

The guards who had been hiding rushed onto the stage.

They hesitated before pulling the dagger from his stomach. Sawyer didn’t move.

Still, they quickly secured handcuffs around his wrists.

The principal appeared out of nowhere.

I hadn’t even seen him during the chaos.

He must have rushed to the back of the theater and hidden beneath the seats.

I simply nodded and kept walking.

The real battle wasn’t over yet.

I needed to get out of there.

I was in a lot of pain.

Once I walked out of the theater, people followed me.

They called me a hero, chanted my name, and thanked me while I restlessly looked

around.

Then I saw Daniel rush toward me.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he quickly wrapped my arm around his shoulder,

helping me toward his car.

“How is she?” I asked, referring to Livia.

“I think she passed out from fear,” Daniel replied as he opened the passenger-side

door and helped me inside.

She was lying in the back seat.

We were definitely headed to the hospital.

“Make sure you’re the one who treats me,” I told him. “Don’t let anyone else.”

He gave me a silent nod.

He knew the deal.

He would never betray my trust by letting another doctor treat me.

“And by the way, you proved you’re just as strong as the rest of us,” k remarked, reminding him how he had thrown himself in front of Livia and taken such a huge gamble to save her life.

He closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side.
