Chapter 883
Madeline:
After meeting up with Bodhi, I decided to head toward the mountain top.
Sadly, Rosetta couldn’t come with us, and the reason was simple.
She wasn’t able to leave a certain boundary.
I could only imagine how she felt.
Part of me thought she’d be happy staying home with Dad, but another part knew she’d be anxious to find out what was happening on the mountain.
“Where are we going?” Bodhi asked.
I smiled and kissed his cheek before stopping on the road and turning toward one of
the warriors waiting nearby to take him to Rosetta and his grandfather.
“Bodhi, you’ve already met Aunt Rosetta, right? She’ll take care of you, and you’ll get to see your grandfather too. Now go.”
I kissed his forehead before he climbed into the car with the warrior.
Then I took off toward the mountain top.
Halfway through, I saw Byron rushing away.
“He killed the monster, I am only heading back to be with Rosetta, I have something important to do,” he was in such a hurry that for a moment, he even scared me.
By the time I arrived, everything was happening exactly as we’d expected.
Sawyer stood in the middle of the crowd, giving some grand speech about attacking the humans within the next hour.
“Are you sure you did?”
The moment my voice carried across the crowd, Sawyer’s eyes narrowed.
Everyone gasped even louder this time as I pushed my way through them.
I stepped to the side, and soon the confrontation formed almost like a triangle.
Baxter stood nearby while Ron and Yuvonne moved closer to me.
Sawyer remained on the opposite side, separated from us, with the crowd surrounding the entire scene.
“You! You’re the savior! You were supposed to save our children!” a woman shouted, pointing toward herself.
“What about her?” Baxter thundered.
“What about her? Everyone she claimed she’d lost is alive and perfectly fine!” a man yelled back.
“And that excuses the torture you all put her through?” Baxter snapped. “She didn’t know we were alive. We were tortured. The Moon Goddess saved us. So no, this wasn’t some plan where we pretended to be dead.”
His voice was so deep and thunderous that whenever he spoke, no one dared interrupt him.
“That’s a good story,” Sawyer replied. “You can tell it to your children.”
He paused, his attention fixed on Baxter.
“Oh, wait. They’re in the human world, aren’t they?”
Sawyer pointed toward us.
“That’s why these people are here. They came from the human lands.”
His expression hardened.
“They came for revenge.”
Once again, the crowd erupted in gasps, several people covering their mouths as they stared at us in shock.
“We didn’t come here for anything. If anything, I came to save an innocent man’s life and help you kill the monster.”
Baxter’s words made several heads turn toward him.
“That’s a lie,” Sawyer scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Really? Is that so? Then mind telling me why this monster is female now instead of male?”
I watched Sawyer’s jaw clench.
That alone was enough to prove he’d noticed it too.
“He’s right. This doesn’t look like the monster from before. Remember the eyes?
The human features? They were male. This one is female.” a man yelled.
“Wait, what is going on?” a woman cried out, demanding an explanation.
“Step aside,” Sawyer snapped at her.
For those few seconds, I saw the fear cross her face.
The way he dismissed her had clearly threatened her.
“That is my mother,” Baxter announced. “She was the one using magic for years to
control werewolves, turn them into monsters, and send them to die.”
Jaws dropped throughout the crowd.
“Another convenient story from Alpha Baxter, who just happened to come from the human world,” Sawyer said bitterly.
He seemed irritated that people were no longer hanging on every word he said.
“If we don’t attack the humans right now, they’ll come here and kill us because that’s all we are to them. Monsters. Why do you think they sent me here? Because humans want this entire world o themselves. They don’t want any other creatures left. They aren’t our kind. They aren’t like us. This is
between humans and werewolves
now!”

I didn’t understand why Sawyer was still screaming about revenge against the
humans.
It made no sense.
Then it hit me.
He’d mentioned the children being in the human world.
He must have already realized that we would never bring them somewhere he might become Alpha King.
He wanted us to panic and also punish humans for kicking him out.
“The woman Baxter killed wasn’t only his mother,” I spoke up, drawing everyone’s attention. “She was also the woman who started this curse and kept feeding it until it became worse.”
I looked across the crowd.
“And even if Sawyer really did end the curse, don’t forget what he is. He’s a lycan. A
lycan isn’t a werewolf. He’s not one of your kind either.”
I said it loud and clear.
When I looked back at Sawyer, he tilted his head and smirked.
“Well, let me remind all of you of something. My little wife over here seems to have forgotten that this lycan saved you from that fucking. monster twice.”
His gaze swept across the crowd.
“So I’ll say this right now. If none of you want to fight the humans, then I’ll do it
alone. Because they’re coming.”
Sawyer pointed toward Baxter.
“They’ve already sent their president here.”
Heads immediately turned toward him.
Fear started creeping across several faces.
Of course they were confused now.
They no longer knew whose side Baxter was on.
But something else had changed too.
The crowd wasn’t nearly as angry or hostile toward us anymore.
Now that the curse was over, the constant fear of losing their children had lifted.
They simply stood there, watching.
“So make your decision!” Sawyer shouted. “What do you want? Do you want to die
at the hands of humans?”
Before anyone could respond, my phone beeped.
I frowned and looked down.
Livia was calling me.
Now that the connection between the human and werewolf worlds had been
opened, calls could finally pass between them.
“See?” Sawyer immediately shouted. “Look at her face. She’s already getting messages from the humans. They’re ready to come for all of you!”
Panic spread through the crowd.
I raised my hand, signaling for everyone to stay quiet, then answered the call.
“Livia?” I uttered.
“Something is going on, Madeline. Something is wrong here.”
Her voice cracked between panicked breaths.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
