Chapter 853
Kaylee:
I was having a little trouble sleeping alone, but soon everything was going to be resolved.
I just had no idea how quickly it would happen.
That morning, when Baxter finally came into his room, I woke up.
I watched as he settled onto the couch.
He rested for a while before leaving, saying that another guest was coming.
But from the way he had come in, it seemed like he had a lot on his mind.
Finally, sometime in the afternoon, he returned to the bedroom.
I was getting a little frustrated by then.
Although it was better than the basement, I still hated the fact that I had to stay hidden in the bedroom because Madeline, her children, and her friends were wandering around outside.
For now, though, the bedroom was still the better option.
Baxter had decided the same thing.
Since everyone was still so bitter about me, it was better if I didn’t insist on leaving the room for the time being.
“You know how hard it is for me to stay in this room?” I asked Baxter with a pout, setting the magazine down.
“I’m taking care of that right now,” Baxter replied, pulling his hands from his pockets. Then he adjusted his collar.
Whenever I looked at him, only one thought came to mind: how good our hot bodies would feel pressed together beneath one blanket, and how Madeline would be burning with jealousy.
“Really? What have you decided?” I asked in the most innocent voice I could manage.
Baxter gave me a faint smile and walked toward me.
He took my hands in his, and I noticed how strong his hands were.
My fingers looked so small in his grasp.
Then he smiled at me.
“In just a few days, there’ll be a ring on this finger, and we’ll elope to one of the most expensive retreats I’ve been planning for you.”
My heart almost stopped with happiness.
My eyes widened, and I tried to wrap my arms around him, but he stopped me with a laugh.
“Not yet. This time, I’m not touching you until after we’re married.”
After that, my respect for him genuinely grew.
At least, unlike Elgin, he hadn’t let me get close to him only to humiliate me afterward.
“Tell me. When?” I asked anxiously, stomping my feet in stubborn impatience.
“I think in a day or two.”
At that, my eyes widened even more.
Only a day or two?
I couldn’t wait.
How was I supposed to know that the Moon Goddess was so fed up with Madeline that she’d give me her entire husband?
“Okay, listen to me. Try not to tell
anyone about it. We’ll plan a tripet
elope, and then return after some time once our honeymoon over Then well tell everyone content
Baxter said, fixing his shirt before walking away as casually as ever.
No show, no drama.
Baxter was different from Elgin and Graham. That was exactly why I was so excited.
Around that time, Madeline entered just as Baxter went into the bathroom.
She looked at me, and I noticed the
same expression on her face before she walked over to her closet
made me wonder when she was finally going to empty it.
I mean, at this point, she should know that I’m the one staying in the bedroom.
“You know that’s karma,” I commented with a smile.
Madeline stopped reaching for the closet, turned around, and stared at me.
“Does the man supporting you know that the reason I punished you was because you tried to kill him?”
Her words scared me.
The moment she reminded me of it, goosebumps rose across my skin.
“It was a mistake,” I said.
“Oh, really? Keep telling yourself that. The day Baxter goes somewhere in the werewolf world for a mission or some kind of deal, he’ll find out that his perfect, innocent mistress is famous there for an entirely different reason.”
There was a smirk on Madeline’s face, and I understood why.
It came from the fact that she had stripped me of my dignity in front of the werewolf
world.
Tears gathered in my eyes as she began to whistle, turned around, grabbed her suit, and walked out of the room.
I still couldn’t forget the way my videos had been displayed for everyone to see and mock me.
I quickly wiped away my tears and placed a hand over my chest to calm myself.
“Don’t worry,” I told myself. “Everything will heal. Everything will work out for me.”
I nodded to myself.
Every single thing would work in my favor.
And this woman who had tried to ruin me would cry because all those things I’d
done in those videos, I was going to do them with her husband now.
I thought it with determination.
I didn’t have to cry.
The Moon Goddess was already fixing my life for me.
