Chapter 742
Madeline:
It didn’t make any sense.
How the fuck was I waking up in my old bedroom from the human world?
Nothing made sense.
I got up and slowly pushed myself to my feet.
I didn’t move much, almost as if I were trapped in a dream I wanted to relive
because this place felt so much safer than what I had been dealing with in the werewolf community.
But at the same time, I didn’t want to wake up here.
No.
Never again.
I wanted to be where my children were.
Slowly, I raised a hand and pinched my chin.
It hurt.
It was real.
At the same time, I felt weight around my ankle.
I pushed the blanket aside and noticed I was wearing an ankle monitor.
My head snapped toward the corner of the room, where a tiny camera was mounted.
What the fuck?
I groaned angrily.
The room seemed different.
Completely changed.
I recognized it, though.
I recognized the layout, the curved hallway leading to the walk-in closet, and everything else.
But the furniture was different.
The picture of my husband was gone.
I mean, my ex-husband.
I’d mentally divorced him so many times already.
Every time I remembered the email he had sent me and everything that followed, I fucking hated him.
He had wasted years of my life.
But at least I had regained my confidence because of it.
I shook my head, climbed out of bed, and looked around.
I went to the window, but it was sealed shut with silver.
The balcony door was locked too.
I reached the door and slammed my fists against it.
I could still sense my wolf sleeping.
So either it hadn’t been long, or I had recently been given wolfsbane to suppress my wolf.
But there was something different about it.
That was what had confused me back when the warriors used those wolfsbane bombs.
They weren’t ordinary wolfsbane.
There was a powerful herb mixed into them, one made specifically for me.
That was why I had blacked out so quickly.
Back then, I had been in too much of a rush to think about it.
Now I wasn’t.
My mind reeled with thoughts.
“Fucking open the door!” I screamed, kicking it before stepping back and pacing with one hand on my lower through
back and the other running wer
my hair.
I was wearing a white dress.
Someone had changed my clothes too.
“I said, fucking open!”
As I screamed again, I heard the click of the lock.
I squared my shoulders.
My hands curled into fists at my sides.
The door opened.
It wasn’t what I expected.
A timid-looking but well-dressed man with glasses stepped inside, followed by several warriors.
“Where the fuck is my daughter?” I screamed, glaring into his eyes as if daring him to lie.
The man glanced at the warriors, as though reminding them to stay on high alert around me.
“Your daughters are fine, and you’ll get to see them when the President wants you to,” he said.
His voice was calm and polished.
I wasn’t sure if I’d seen him somewhere before.
Maybe I had, back in the human world.
But who the fuck was he?
And what the fuck did he mean by ‘daughters?’
Qu
“You don’t fucking know where my daughter is, because it would be daughter, not daughters. Singular, not plural. “yelled as tears welled in my eyes.
That was how I caught his lie.
I wasn’t sure how I had ended up here, but I knew they had no idea where Elara
was.
“Actually, you need to calm down first,” the man said, adjusting the glasses on the bridge of his nose.
“Calm down? My daughter is fucking
missing, and you want me to calm down?” I screamed, taking another

Suddenly, I felt a sharp jolt in my ankle.
I looked down and realized it was a shock anklet.
“Fucking shit—what do you think I am? A fucking dog that you can put a leash on?” I screamed again.
He gestured for me to stop, then gulped.
“I might have accidentally pressed the button,” he said, pulling his hands out of his
pockets.
“Hi. I’m Daniel,” he said with a nervous smile.
“I don’t fucking care who you are!” I yelled, watching him gulp again.
“I know, but I’m a researcher, just like you used to be,” he said softly.
“It’s just that the President wants you to stay calm. Then you’ll be reunited with your
children.”
His words confused me.
Why the fuck did he keep saying ‘my children?’
I just didn’t understand what was happening.
And why the fuck did Sawyer want me back at all?
Didn’t he have a new wife now?
He had told me through his emails that he was marrying her.
