Chapter 659
Elara:
I used to see my mama, my daddy, and my two siblings in my dreams.
They would tell me how happy they were together, and that I was the only one left behind.
One day, I woke up crying and made the mistake of thinking about my father.
Not my real father.
My fake father.
The one who had told me to call him Daddy, or the monster would come and take me away.
I only wanted to ask him to take me back to my mama.
I wanted to beg him not to send the monster after us. But he got angry.
He treated me horribly.
The way he grabbed my neck and squeezed my throat terrified me.
He scared me more than I could put into words.
After that, I couldn’t cry in front of him anymore.
I just went silent.
Sitting on my bed, I curled into myself until I was nothing more than a small ball.
I wanted my mama.
I wanted to go home.
I wanted to be with my daddy Baxter.
My daddy was the best.
Then Uncle Elgin left, Aunt Rosetta came into the room.
“What happened to you?” Aunt Rosetta asked.
“Why are you crying like this?”
She walked over to the bed and gently placed a hand on my head.
I don’t know why, but everyone seemed to hate us.
Aunt Rosetta wasn’t like them.
She always treated me kindly.
Still, she had forbidden me from going to the second floor, and I respected her enough that I never went against her wishes.
“Because everyone hates us,” I replied through my tears.
She gently helped me up and settled me in her lap.
“I don’t,” she answered with a warm smile.
She was so pretty, unlike Aunt Silver or Aunt Kaylee.
They were mean, and I didn’t like them.
I hadn’t liked Aunt Yuvonne at first either, but later she became very kind to us. “Why?” I asked her.
“Why don’t you hate us? I’m sure you will when you meet my mommy. You’ll hate me too. You’ll hate all of us. That’s what everyone does. They hate my mommy for no reason.”
I sniffled the tears back.
“Maybe it is because she is too pretty.” I spoke between hiccups, rubbing at my wet eyes with my tiny hands.
Aunt Rosetta laughed, but it wasn’t a cruel laugh.
It sounded so beautiful that I stopped crying just to stare at her.
“I will never hate your mother. I could never,” she whispered.
Her eyes lit up at the mention of my mother and I frowned at her.
“Now this will be our little secret, okay?” she murmured, pressing a finger to her lips. “Don’t tell anyone.”
“If you don’t hate my mommy, then why don’t you go help her?” I asked.
I just wanted someone to bring my mother back to me.
But the very thought of going outside seemed to upset Aunt Rosetta.
I had noticed it before.
Whenever I asked why she wouldn’t go outside, she would make an excuse.
She never sounded angry. She always answered sweetly.
Still, I knew when someone was lying.
“My little angel, if I could leave this prison, I would have done so a long time ago.”
For a moment, it looked as though she had drifted somewhere far away as she spoke.
“So you’re like a princess trapped in a castle? I asked, blinking away the last of my tears. Are you a
princess?” Content belong ther

She laughed.
“Do you have an evil mother too?”
The moment I asked that question, her smile faded.
“I have no one in this world except one family member,” she said quietly. “And I can’t
leave to help them.”
She paused before gently brushing a hand over my hair.
“But know this, your aunt hasn’t been
sitting here doing nothing. All these years, I’ve been putting a plan
together to save you and your
family. Your siblings, your mother, and your father.”
She touched my cheek and pulled me into a hug.
“You are such a beautiful child.”
At that moment, I realized I wasn’t going to cry and beg Uncle Elgin for help
anymore.
“And trust me, Elara, you will be
da
reunited with your family. You just need to trust me, keep our conversations to yourself, and exactly as say. Okay?”
She was so kind and so sweet that I couldn’t say no to her.
“Then I’ll help you save my mother too,” I promised.
As soon as I said that, Rosetta smiled at me.
“Good.”
She smoothed my hair back from my face.
“Now we’ll eat, and then we’ll wait. It’s coming.”
Her smile lingered.
“Everything is falling perfectly into place, my little angel,” she murmured calmly.
“And then-I’ll have my family come here to be saved instead of me going out to save them.”
She smiled to herself as she held my hand and led me out of the room so we could have lunch together.
I guess-
We had found our savior.
