“But you said you would post my pictures once the president was awake,” I reminded Daniel of his own statement.

He turned his face away, looking guilty that he wasn’t following through on his promise.

“Actually, things are complicated. He has woken up, but we have to keep that information from his wife.”

Daniel sighed.

“His second wife is a mess. We don’t know exactly what’s going on, but she’s not allowed anywhere near him. As far as she’s concerned, we’ve told her that he’s still undergoing treatment and that his condition is critical.”

He paused before continuing.

“So we’re maintaining that facade until he fully recovers.”

Daniel fed me a bunch of bullshit.

I couldn’t understand why my case was tied to the president’s situation in the first place.

What did he have to do with me?

Was I somehow related to the president?

“Look, please don’t force me. It’ll all make sense in due time. It’s just that I don’t want to get into trouble by telling you more than I’m allowed to.”

Daniel rubbed his hands together anxiously as he spoke.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

Daniel seemed almost too happy to use it as an excuse to get away from me.

His parents had returned, and they weren’t very comfortable around me.

Then again, I wasn’t comfortable around them either.

The reason was simple.

Livia stepped into the room with a bright smile on her lips.

I had practically locked myself away in there.

I didn’t want to leave and face Daniel’s family.

They weren’t particularly welcoming, and I didn’t enjoy the hostility.

“How are you?” Livia asked as she walked in, carrying several large takeout boxes.

She handed them to Daniel, who quickly hurried off to grab plates, probably eager to put more distance between us.

I gave her an annoyed response as she sat beside me, rolling her eyes playfully.

I noticed how dressed up she was.

She wore a pink dress, her hair was curled, and she had put on a generous amount of makeup.

“You’re hilarious,” she remarked with a small laugh.

“I’m not joking. I’m serious.”

The moment I corrected her, her smile began to fade.

“Okay, look, we’ll find your family. But how do you even know you have one? Could the woman from your dreams ust be a crush? Maybe she’s moved on. Maybe she was never with you be the first place. We” don’t even know how you ended up in this situation.”

She continued trying to reason with me, but it sounded like nonsense.

I rolled my eyes and got off the bed. She was sitting a little too close, and I didn’t like

it.

My hand curled into a fist.

“That’s exactly why I want to find out who I am,” I said through clenched teeth.

“We’ll let you know,” she started to say.

I raised a finger and shook it at her before folding my arms across my chest and staring at her intently.

“You know,” I began, “I don’t trust your story about finding me after an accident.”

I narrowed my eyes.

“You lied. So what makes you think I’m going to stay calm and listen to you for more than two minutes?”

She remained silent.

pushed her for the truth.

The truth was far more disturbing than I had expected.

“A monster?” I asked, nearly raising my voice.

“And I’m from werewolf land? Then why can’t I feel my wolf?”

I let out a frustrated groan.

Then something shifted inside me when I heard a loud commanding voice.

‘Well, hello.’

The voice dripped with confidence.
