Chapter 721
Elgin:
“Well, how do you think my granddaughters have been living normal lives, going about their daily activities without losing weight or looking exhausted?”
As Lord John said that, even I began to wonder.
I had noticed that those two little bastards had been completely fine this whole time while everyone else’s children were suffering.
I knew the parents had come up with ways to help their children.
They took turns standing guard and let their children sleep for only two hours before waking them.
That was how long it took for the nightmares, sleepwalking, and vomiting to begin.
The routine had become unbearable.
Everyone was exhausted, but they kept doing it because Madeline had refused to help.
But why wasn’t it the same for Hailey and Hannah?
Even I was listening intently now.
“That’s because my daughter has been helping them. But she was too afraid to come forward and help everyone else because, well, she had her own troubles, didn’t she?”
With deliberate drama, Lord John turned toward me and looked me up and down.
The people who had been sympathizing with me for being played like a fiddle by this fucking bitch were suddenly staring at me with disgust.
I still remembered clearly how they had treated Madeline.
So, of course, she had been right.
These people would use and discard anyone if it served their own interests.
They had no principles of their own.
“Well then, why don’t you tell us what she did?” my mother finally snapped.
She couldn’t take it anymore. He was building his case as though this were some magical moment.
Lord John turned to my mother and gave her a look of pure disgust, as if he were offended that she had dared to speak.
Then he faced the crowd again.
The crowd seemed to share my mother’s thoughts. They were curious.
“That’s because my daughter was born under a special moon, which makes her unique. Her tears possess a special power. They only work as a treatment when she sheds them willingly, without anyone forcing her.”
His words left me stunned. I went completely numb for a few seconds.
Then my head snapped toward Silver.
She stood there, calm and composed, almost as though she already knew he wasn’t lying.
Of course, she had to know.
Otherwise, she would never have allowed her father to make such an enormous claim.
But was she really that special?
That was the question in my mother’s eyes when she looked at me.
“I don’t know,” I mouthed back.
My gaze shifted to Kaylee in the front row.
She looked disappointed too because if Silver really was that
special, I wasn’t sure how I was
supposed to humiliate her by divorcing her in public.
The divorce papers were already on the table, and suddenly it felt as though they were going to make me look like a fool.
We’d sign them, and then everyone would forget about me and start praising Silver as some great, special wolf.
“Why hasn’t she told us this before?” my mother asked, still searching for something that would prove them wrong.
“As a council leader, you should not interrupt him. This concerns our children,” one of the women shouted from the crowd.
My mother gasped.
I gently nudged her elbow, silently telling her that this was serious and that she needed to stay quiet for now.
“Anyway,” Lord John continued, “all
you have to do is place a drop of my daughter’s tears into your child’s eyes and another into their mouth for a stronger effect. That’s it. Your children will be fine for a week while we determine the source of the curse.”
People immediately began exchanging hopeful smiles.
“And if you want proof, we’re happy to demonstrate it.”
That made everyone even more confident because Lord John had no hesitation about testing his claim.
I was already in shambles.
I mean, Madeline had been special and that is why her children were ever so slightly
affected by the curse.
But Silver too was special?
This bitch had hidden something this important from me.
If she hadn’t, I might have overlooked the whole cheating issue.
Of course,d still wouldn’t have given Hailey and Hannah my name, but might have kept her by my si
uptif
I had no more use for her.
Now I remained silent, unable to even call her a bitch because people were already
looking at her with admiration.
“Luna Silver, is it true?” a woman who had been insulting her only moments earlier
asked, her voice now filled with respect.
“It is,” Silver replied in a calm, regal tone.
“All hail Lady Silver!”
Just as I had expected, everyone bowed before her.
I could feel my heartbeat pounding in my temples.
“Then perform the test. Give us proof,” my mother insisted.
Of course, it was even harder for her to accept that this cheater was about to be
regarded as someone so extraordinary.
